Good to keep passengers (‘customers’) on their toes; also nothing quite like being bellowed at to get behind the wobbly yellow by station staff :)

Gotta love that Rail Blue/Pearl Grey combo slicing through the Downs :)

It’s possible Thane of Fife’s tyres were worn or the symbol was fitted wrongly (or both)!

I think there was some sort of method in their madness…

The original BR symbol was 240mm x-height and the nameplates were fitted over it; it's possible the symbol gave rise to the 100mm/180mm InterCity stripe depths which are unusual values (bit of a strange coincidence otherwise)...

Small heavy paper ticket wallet : in dark blue with white lettering to top edge, centred, "With compliments. British Rail" and centred on lower edge a large scale BR double arrow symbol/logotype in light blue.

I’d be very interested in scans in that case, I expect I have much of the material but have significant gaps in my archive

Thanks for reaching out, sounds fascinating, these tend to be hard to come by these days; how many are there and would you be willing to loan them to me?

Sure but the R feels arbitrary to me (there are a lot more changes that could have been made in the name of accessibility); FWIW I prefer a straight legged R but it feels like that significantly chips away at the original Swiss-ness of Rail Alphabet 2, too many changes and any RA provenance is lost

I should stress that these are set in Helvetica (see arched 7s) but they are very charming nonetheless (less so the crazy Pullman branding tbf)

Those individual major station icons were pretty poor and yet people seem determined to carry on using them :(

It’s messy, I’m afraid; did I imagine a grey stripe across the bottom of the Deansgate repeaters too?

What’s with the crazy coloured blobs orbiting the M? Talk about complicating it!
