Having observed some student teaching this week, I think I might make it my mission to get smart phones out of our schools before my son is old enough to start attending.
ope. In my Modern US survey, “What’s the one thing you all know about Bill Clinton?” used to be Monica Lewinsky but today it was Epstein. So that’s an interesting new development.

VERY COOL PERSON: It's four-twenty, you know what that means?
ME: Hell yeah! [starts shoving blackbirds into a pie]
wait till they figure out how much faster the airplane, a machine invented by Orville and Wilbur Wright in 1903, can traverse the same distance
by far the most radicalizing thing about becoming a dad was a detailed vision of the way that women navigate health care, and particularly maternal medicine, in this country
Philly doing its part to smack down my wistful nostalgia by leaving me SEPTA stranded
Based on this operator having to yell “T2, the 34, Baltimore Ave” at every stop, it appears the SEPTA trolley system rebrand has not gone smoothly.
Yes! At our old house. Ryan and Miles are here too, you should text him!
Not today but hopefully this weekend!
Riding the trolley through West Philly to go to OAH and oof I miss living here.
Heading to #OAH tomorrow. Excited to conference again. I’m very out of practice! Hope to see some wonderful friends and colleagues!
Always love the new words that my typing fingers invent, bypassing my conscious mind.
Today's new finger-invention: HIERARCHIVES
Giving this word away free to any archives scholar who wants it LOL. Just footnote my index and middle fingers (I'm a four-finger typer) #history #archives #skystorians
big pharma is great IP law sucks pass it on
I try to agree to 1-2 a year, only for books I know I need to read anyway. Just accidentally agreed with overlapping deadlines!
Just read and loved Rachel Elders Secrecy and Safety: A Cultural History of Seizures in America
I like writing book reviews, but not as much as my impending deadlines would seem to indicate!
this gave me a burst of adrenaline wondering "oh no did I miss my flight?" but...I have no flights scheduled for at least two months lol.
I'm sorry this happened! Glad it seems like it will work out!
Coffeeshops need to bring back couches and comfy chairs. Nobody wants stools, corporate minimalist chairs, or wooden benches.
Dinner at 5:30pm or even 6 is great because by the time the food comes it'll be 6 or 6:30pm, it helps include people with young children, and then everyone can go to bed early.
At its best undergraduate education helps students figure themselves out and provides the space and platform for self-exploration and the freedom to explore. I don’t know big picture what it means if some of that disappears, but as someone who had a transformative experience, it just makes me sad.
obvi a recession indicator ….. they’re saving fabric by cutting off pants at the ankle. can’t trick me, Big Fashion
many students seem to think so lolsob
Hope to see you around!
Hey Americanists, et al: The "TBA" on the last day of my undergrad post-1945 US History syllabus is approaching and I'm looking for suggestions. Ideally, I'd like readings that rethink the era or puts the very recent past in broader perspective. I've got ideas, but I'd like options. Any thoughts? 🗃️
Friends, for a student:
does anyone know where a student might find digitized commonplace books & scrapbooks? All collections/suggestions welcome—she just needs more examples for a project she’s working on
I made my kid and his friends watch this. They’ve worn helmets ever since:

one of those days of parenting that ends with google. he's *probably* just being a normal, volatile two year old but holy shit
I don’t get why parents try to enforce a “no climbing up the slide” rule at playgrounds. If no one is waiting at the top, climbing up should be allowed.
