A man killed eight children, including seven of his own, and shot two women in an attack in a Shreveport, Louisiana, neighborhood that was the nation’s deadliest shooting in more than two years, authorities said.
I completely understand. We need to do better. For example, I just saw a headline about a "man raping a juvenile" .... What? The man was convicted of raping a child. We should just say so. So I get it. Like I said, we need to do better.
And for the record, the police called it a "domestic incident" ... I'm the one that called it a domestic violence dispute because I thought the word incident was too passive. I didn't want to go much farther because there was very little info about what happened available at the time.
As I said, when I wrote that tweet, there was very little information about what had happened. I knew 8 children were dead and there was a car chase and a "domestic incident" ... Literally nothing more. I was trying not to report what I didn't know. I'm asking for grace.
A poor choice of words on my part, but at the time I tweeted this out, they hadn't even confirmed the killer was "a guy." They hadn't said anything about the shooter's relationship to the victims other than it was a "domestic incident."
I was being cautious because of the lack of info.
EIGHT children are dead following what police are calling a domestic violence dispute in Shreveport. #lalege

My stepchild represented St. John's College against the Naval Academy in the Annapolis Cup yesterday. Navy won. (Booo.) But I'm so proud.
The Louisiana House unanimously passed a budget that spends more money on prisons and juvenile lockups. The question of how much public school teachers will be paid remains up in the air until after the May 16 election.

Louisiana legislators and Gov. Jeff Landry's administration are interested in expanding access to popular weight-loss drugs for Medicaid recipients. Cost could be a challenge, though the Trump administration is bringing the expense down.

On a related note, the sponsor of this bill said more than once last week that legislators are already using campaign funds to pay for their clothes/dry cleaning. If that's the case, they are breaking the law. #lalege
Louisiana state lawmakers may gain the ability to use their campaign and PAC money to pay for their clothing under a bill they might pass. This would put Louisiana's campaign finance law out of line with federal statutes. #lalege
