We were so grateful for and inspired by each submission from young artists all across California who shared their vision of an environmentally just future.
Both pieces were selected for capturing the spirit of our anniversary theme - “Grounded in Community, Growing Through Action: 25 Years and Beyond”. These two young artists also identify as being from environmental justice communities.
🎉We have TWO winners!
We couldn’t decide🫣…so we’re picking TWO winners! Congratulations to Abigail Medina (age 17) and Lauren Miller (age 22), the winners of CEJA’s 25th Anniversary Youth Art Contest!🎨

Many #California legislators failed environmental justice communities with the passage of #SB131. We thank those who have stood with these communities who rely on #CEQA for protections from deadly pollution.

At a moment when environmental justice protections are under attack, transparency and accountability matter more than ever. Learn how California lawmakers voted and use the 2025 #EJScorecard as a tool for organizing and accountability.

Dark text on an orange background. The header reads "STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY: Beyond our Scope, but Deeply Present." The body text reads: "While CEJA focuses on environmental justice, numerous ongoing movements align with our overall goal of creating a just future for everyone. Vulnerable communities are under attack within California and throughout the world. CEJA unequivocally supports an embargo of weapons and ammunition to Israel and calls for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. We cannot abide genocide anywhere in our world to have an equitable and just future. CEJA stands in full solidarity with immigrant communities and calls for the end of all ICE raids and for the immediate release of all detainees. Environmental justice means fighting for our communities’ right to exist — free from fossil fuel pollution and militarized policing. To all of the other movements on the frontlines of protecting fundamental human rights — our trans and queer siblings, accessibility advocates, defenders of the free press, and many more — we see you. We stand with you in this fight for a just future for all." Beneath it, a white banner reads: CEJA and CEJA Action’s 2025 Environmental Justice Scorecard: bit.ly/2025EJscorecard
Environmental justice does not exist in isolation. CEJA stands in solidarity with immigrant communities demanding an end to ICE raids and detention, a permanent ceasefire, and an end to U.S. support for violence and genocide abroad. A just future requires defending our communities’ right to exist.

“A lot of these facilities that they exempted have long histories of contaminating drinking water and air, directly leading to harmful chronic diseases like asthma, cancer — what we’re talking about is a huge threat to public health.” - Asha Sharma
“Exempting manufacturing from environmental review is very different from exempting housing development,” said Asha Sharma, a state policy manager for Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability.
“From an environmental justice perspective, this was the safeguards that we needed so that this [advanced manufacturing] exemption wasn’t going to create all these harms in our communities." - Raquel Mason, Senior Legislative Manager at CEJA
CEQA Cleanup Bill AB 1083 Withdrawn
"The shot down AB 1083 aimed at narrowing the advanced manufacturing exemption, restoring protections for endangered species habitat and public access to administrative records and securing public health safeguards for communities affected by exempt projects."

California approved a $115M investment in plug-in heat pumps and induction stoves, helping make clean, affordable electrification accessible to renters, low-income households, and frontline communities. This is equity-centered climate policy in action.

This year, we brought hundreds of leaders from CA EJ communities to Sacramento for @CEJAAction’s Spring Lobby Day and Congreso. We created safe spaces for our members to learn from one another and experience joy. Support our efforts to continue building people power by donating!

BREAKING: LA County is suing oil companies for 200+ unplugged wells in the Inglewood oil field. Angelenos are one step closer to accountability from the toxic, extractive, and polluting fossil fuel industry.
