I was thinking that the Saxons and Romans would not understand recreational running. What a strange way to make use of their hard work! Last year I visited the Appian Way outside Rome and marvelled at the stones that had borne centuries of animal-drawn heavy carts and decades of mountain bikes.

Today part of my #longrun 🏃🏻‍♂️ was on Fleam Dyke. This is a miles-long mound of earth running N-S with a trench to the W. It was made by the Saxons late 5th-early 7th centuries to control traffic and trade into East Anglia from the west. I returned on the Roman Road 🛡️ #trailrunning #running
