In privacy settings on Twitter there's an option to lock down your account. Nobody can follow you without your approval and your replies are hidden.

I have locked down my Twitter account and uninstalled the app from all devices. While I wanted to deactivate my account, I was told not to by a friend to prevent my username from being stolen by a bad actor.
