“Terms such as ‘profound autism,’ ‘high functioning,’ or ‘levels of autism’ […] maintain systems of categorisation and segregation that prioritise some needs over others, without addressing the structural changes required to support all Autistic people.”
Yellow and green book on a desk next to a houseplant.
Very happy to say that Neurodiversity: A Very Short Introduction, written by @suereviews.bsky.social and myself, is out now! It was a lot of fun trying to condense neurodiversity theory, research, practice, and politics into a single, brief book. Available in all the usual places!
We all need support and there’s nothing shameful about it
Argh. I am so sorry you experienced this.
No, no, no!! Ugh!
Fabulous resources from @ndconnection.bsky.social
Interactive toolkit: A practical approach to neurodiversity-affirming care and support
It brings together five practical tools to support wellbeing, safety, and coordinated, consent-based, relational care:

autistic people speak for ourselves.
even without words.
sometimes with assistance from our support people.
but never by silencing us.
The irony of Naomi Fisher saying that autistics speaking out against the ableist and violent comments of Uta Frith are “silencing autism” - they literally want to redefine autism to mean anyone who can’t advocate for themselves.

March 15, 2026 is Long Covid Awareness Day
Every Covid infection causes damage to multiple body systems. It is not just a respiratory virus. It caused my heart attack.
The number of people becoming disabled or dying due to Long COVID complications increases with every Covid Infection. You can't get Long Covid if you prevent Covid infection.
Long Covid is a post viral condition that is caused by Covid infection. It is a multi-systemic infection that can manifest with more than 200 different symptoms. Honestly, almost any novel illness-related symptoms these days tend to be related to a previous COVID infection.
#LongCovidAwarenessDay
is not a happy day.
It shouldn't be needed.
All levels of government, medical support workers...(humans) must accept the truth.
Too many are still in denial. They claim the truth is too hard to accept.
Long COVID reality can happen to anyone.
Act to prevent it.

We only dipped our toes in the water of this conversation on educational ableism! Time just flew, as usual. Thanks, @endseclusion.bsky.social
- so much more to say and I'm grateful you create these forums! The full conversation is available: www.youtube.com/live/yR4BvnB...
“COVID-aware communities must provide safe spaces for generationally disabled families to celebrate access justice and radical inclusion."
"A core principle of disability justice is cross-disability organizing. Fighting for collective liberation is essential.”
I still struggle with this, intensely. I discussed with a young student struggling with this today how important it is to resource ourselves, to get angry and fear out of our bodies when we can, to exercise, to sing, to rest... Do I take my own advice? Not enough.

And meanwhile they're counting the days precisely between refills to make sure we're not abusing them because stimulants are addictive for others.... Lollll... Nope, still not forming habits!
I wish I could say this was unbelievable... I wouldn't have imagined I could dislike testing more but someone figured out how to Frankenstein it with a behaviorist stoplight system!
I am comforted by zooming out to realize how small I am, and how much was here before and will go on after. I marvel to bear witness to stars, some of which are already extinguished. I am steadied by the trees I talk to, and the lasting topographies that perhaps observe us the way we do stars...
You can become disabled or homeless at any time.
They aren’t moral failings.
You can’t “just try harder”.
All it takes is one accident, one illness, one catastrophic event and your life changes forever.
It’s a minority group you can join at any time.
He broke the law.
She was illegal.
They’re a criminal.
This is what people say when we point out the abuse & atrocities in the ICE camps.
No one should be treated this way.
No one should be denied food, water & medical care.
No one should be denied due process.
I just never seem to pick good pears. However there is a pear and apple orchard near me and I have wanted to go the last two years, and just always seem to go when they are out of season!! Lol...

So excited about this new publication published today written by me, Lincoln S. Smith, PhD, and Dr. Kathy Broad entitled "Resisting Hegemony in Teacher Education: Possibilities for Transformational Teaching and Learning Within Neoliberal Systems".
It's open access: repamjournal.org/index.php/RE...
Happy birthday!
I emailed them and they claimed to have not heard of this happening and it must have been incorrectly stored (it was not, at least on my end). Meanwhile, I went down a Reddit rabbit hole and saw plenty of people with the same or close to the same batch numbers had also complained...
I love mine! Although I had one whole box of tests that gave invalid results and weren't expired.
A screenshot of a regional map showing Paris Ontario. There is a small photo icon in the bottom left corner that looks like a heritage House.
A screenshot of what opens. It is a heritage house decorated for Halloween one assumes. There are multipe skeletons scaling the walls of the house.
I wanted to see how far it is (not very) and pulled it up on a map. There was a nice heritage home as the small image in the corner. I clicked on it and was very amused and even more eager to visit!!
Sounds like you've got your priorities straight and I have a new place to visit 🤣
Heads up if you have a disability...
@aircanada.bsky.social is charging my wife and I hundreds of dollars extra because she uses a wheelchair and they won’t provide an accessible airport transfer (which we paid for in the package) that she can use unless we pay more.
Thank you for all the good you put out in the world! It is so needed.
