Let me tell ya about money laundering in the resale market. Some used books don’t even exist, merely a money transfer for some other service. Found a “used copy” of my hubbies book on Amazon going for a lot a couple of years ago from a PO box in Texas.

Yep. It’s not even subsidizing folks who should be charged less than product value (if this algo actually allowed for it). Same reason gas stations charge more for food items than supermarkets. Or how airlines & hotels charge more to loyal customers (likely to offset those “reward” miles or stays).
