Perhaps the most embarrassing part of the recent IGN review of Mouse PI is that the "reviewer" implied that Casablanca is a film noir. Like what?

In addition to arguing that “inflation” is a deeply misleading term, we model a practice of reading modernist texts that draws out money’s contestability as a capacious public medium of provisioning across all spheres of collective life, past & present.
Three panel comic. Panel 1: scene from the movie Aliens; Ripley is in a mech suit and delivers her iconic line: “get away from her, you bitch!” Panel 2: the xenomorph queen lunges at Ripley in the robotic suit and they engage in a fight. Panel 3: later, the xenomorph queen is standing in the shower, mid wash. She says, “‘it takes one to know one, honey.’ That’s what I should have said.”
RIP to the Shaggy of the 5 colleges. One of my many regrets in my academic career was not taking courses there when I was an undergrad at UMass.
how it's going
Taking a video game studies seminar this semester, so of course I'm only focusing on parts when the readings mention classic noir.
Wondering how @mckenziewark.bsky.social came up with these examples from Dassin...
Well hope they don't find out about running🙄
Wasn't surprised when darren aronofsky started with AI but this makes me sad...
Steven, as one of the main scholars of your work, I am telling you NO

Learned yesterday that AI monitors Bluesky "Starter Packs" to determine who to cite for academic expertise.
So I'm starting one for Media History.
I'm too busy to search for every name. If you're a media historian nominate yourself in the comments and I'll add you.
Can't wait for these students to take a blue book exam in one of my classes
Writing a paper on Charlie XCS and trying to decide if I should keep referring to her full stage name, Charlie, or XCS.
A two panel meme, The first panel is showing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles saying "Hey, it's Mr. T. Who's the chick next to him" The second one is showing Mr. T next to April O'Neil saying "It's April, fools"
Where's the part when they refuse to publish anything else by this "writer"?
This seems normal...
Sad, beautiful, and true 😢
Thx to the students who made this
Congrats to that guy from Brian De Palma's Body Double for winning the comedy prize.
I started a newsletter called Notes on Radical Cinema and wrote a brief introduction. I plan to write short, irregular dispatches on what I'm viewing and reading. I'd love some subscribers, and please spread the word!

Boom to Bust is out on April 14…and the Hollywood unions are back at the negotiating table.
@mirandabanks.bsky.social and I wrote about what is going on and why it matters on the @ucpress.bsky.social Blog.

Never heard of this being unethical. What's your reasoning (asking as someone who never gives extra credit assignmens)?
Baffles me how many of my fellow PhD students simply don't read for fun. Like ya it's a lot of work being in grad school but I still find time to read for pleasure.
Apparently this is becoming a necessary weekly PSA. If you don’t want to read, write, and think, that’s fine. But then you have no business being a scholar. Especially if you’re TT/tenured, and especially in the humanities, if you can’t be bothered to do these things, you need to get out now.
I always find it hilarious that students think that all I want in life is an essay to grade. Like I’m jonesing so hard for an essay that they can give me any bullshit that AI concocts to satisfy my insatiable hunger for essays.
Rod Serling is probably the coolest guy of the 20th century. Looked cool, sounded cool, fought Nazis, hated John Wayne, wrote the screenplay for Planet of the Apes. Honestly dunks all the hell over any male influencer guy.
Star Trek The Next Generation scene. Pictured is "After hours Geordi La Forge." He's wearing a velvety cushy soft looking future space guy sweater and he's ready to chillax to the max. Also and always wearing his banana clip looking eye visor. Closed caption reads, "Maybe a little soft jazz."
A+ State of the Union counterprogramming by TCM.
Or you know just read the abstract...
It is interesting that two of the best horror directors come from sketch comedy backgrounds but the veil between those art forms is honestly pretty thin given that a bad improv show is essentially an unsettling a24 film
