Long moment while I tried to remember where puppetry featured in the film Rocky.
Technically it isn't bread it's a batter. It soaks up the meat juices which is good, and it's a vehicle for the gravy (not pictured but always implied). So basically it's just another of the thousands of meat+carb variations which remain popular all around the world.
