Basically, I can understand how many people could see recent events in the US as a prelude to something much worse. People who are capable of cruelty and evil on a small scale can do the same on a large scale.

The Holocaust is unmatched 1) because it targeted a specific community for TOTAL extermination, and 2) because of its scale and focus on efficiency. And there’s no doubt that the term “genocide” is often abused these days. But a small evil is still evil and often leads to evil on a larger scale.
