Oof. Flashback: arguing for obvious best practice (as a senior) and having a peanut gallery of juniors giving a bunch of objections - including that it sounded hard and they’d never worked in a place that did that.

Yes, I know, that’s why the product and org is in the shape it’s in.

Was fun to work with you all on it. Some great tech in that game!

No idea. (Oh, but I just looked it up and it’s more terrible even than I imagined.)

Then you go back for more dopamine.

I think we are going to see a dividing line for sure. Nobody is catching up to Threads scale anytime soon and it will shortly top even Twitter at its peak. IG has two billion with a B monthly active users. The real world is already there.

But maybe more real & direct conversations will happen here.

Largely agree, though this part made me chuckle.

All I’m saying is, I still know tons of people waiting on a code for this place, and my realtor just added me on Threads.

I don’t like it. But if AAA video game development has taught me anything, it’s that “regular ass people” are who actually make something huge.

The average person doesn’t have a Bluesky invite… but they do have an Instagram handle.

Bluesky feels cozier, tbh, but the Threads launch is really going to ramp up the pressure to scale. Curious whether they will stick to slow growth or go for the numbers. And what the community will do.

So the thing that Threads has going for it over Bluesky is definitely instant scale.

I joined Bluesky and it took weeks to get even a tiny number of folks I know and want to follow. Meanwhile on Threads I’m getting a notification every few minutes of people I actually know following me.

Tony Evers uses veto powers to extend annual increases for public schools for the next four centurie... In signing the state budget, Gov. Tony Evers used his broad partial veto powers to make permanent annual per-pupil increases for public schools.

School funding extended for 400 years by deleting just the right words and a hyphen to turn "24-25" into "2425". Amazing. www.jsonline.com/story/news/politics/2023...

I want to tag Ed Pereira in this so bad, but he's not here yet. He worked a LOT on making the jeep feel good. :)

the vibes on twitter are just so, so bad. I used to flip over a lot to try to keep up on content but there’s just … nothing there of use. it’s just trash content and ads. nearly all the best creators have slowed their posting to a reluctant crawl. it feels like shopping in a dying j.c. penney.

I would have to look into the specifics of the tax dodge involved to make this argument more clearly, but yes. If it’s no longer an asset for tax reasons then it should no longer be an asset for copyright enforcement.

Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Ethann Isidore in a stolen tuk-tuk in a screencap from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Ethann Isidore in a stolen tuk-tuk in a screencap from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny: fun and memorable, lots of Nazi punching, does the series justice. Most of the action is with old Indy but the de-aged flashbacks work well.

So I guess the odd numbered Indy films are officially the best.

Wes Anderson

My favorite conspiracy theory is that Michael Bay is just Wes Anderson doing a bit

* They’re not zombies. TLOU never uses that word. It’s always “Infected” or the particular sub-variant - runner, clicker, bloater, etc.

Every time I use an infrared thermometer it feels like I’m using a FEDRA scanner. Green: “nope, not a zombie”.

In my experience, there is an EXTREMELY high correlation between the sort of dude who is opposed to people blocking accounts, and the sort of dude who regularly gets blocked because he is, intentionally or not, some flavor of obnoxious.

The funniest moment in the entire series will always be:

Internet search: “job”
No results

I’m Drew, tech lead working on Horizon at Meta Reality Labs.

Previously Naughty Dog (U4, TLOU:R, UTLL), Sony (PS4 PlayGo, PS3 FIOS, too many first party titles to count), Apple (cd burning & CoreOS), and a couple of my own companies including legal tech & community monetization.
