Howdy y'all

My dear friend and collaborator is in a bad way financially after a bunch of bullshit. She has one of the only cars in our household, too, so this fundraiser does also help me.

She's looking for small odd jobs for money or donations. The goal is at least $500.

ICE detained more than 70 Minnesota children, data reveals Immigration officials detained more than 70 Minnesota children between Dec. 1 and March 10, a Sahan analysis of court records and federal deportation data shows.

“This is a systemic violent act, to be detaining children, that has long-term consequences,” Kelley said. “It’s massively detrimental to the well-being of these families and our whole communities.”

I will always find it confusing that some people think a person riding a $2000 bike to commute is a privileged elitist but the guy in the $80k truck that costs $150 to fill is the working class average joe.

Last term, Council President Payne led the most productive council in recent history. We aren’t stopping this term either. Progressives are delivering.

I don’t want to hear about a lack of “priorities” when progressives are the only ones bringing policy and solutions forward. 2/

Centrists on the Minneapolis city council are not writing legislation, not leading with bright ideas on any of the issues in the city, not calling any experts to the table, not studious or showing any depth of intellectual curiosity, they don't excel at anything but the status quo

In January, MPD internal records show that show Priority 1 domestic abuse calls (categorized as Dabuse) in Minneapolis waited 30–88 minutes for a response.

Priority 1 means immediate threat to life or safety—calls that are supposed to receive the fastest possible response.

If you are the sort of driver who will use your car as a threat to bully a parent w/ 2 young kids across the crosswalk faster… you shouldn’t have access to a car.

We had a walk sign & were not walking slowly. The driver stared at me impatiently & drove toward us aggressively enough …

The "freedom to drive" actually means having zero choice. You are forced to buy, maintain, insure, fuel, and store a depreciating asset on repeat forever.

True mobility freedom is having safe, efficient, accessible alternatives, not surrendering your financial independence to car dependency.

Super fascinated by this chart of time socializing by age and how there was a HUGE spike among young ppl from 2009-12 and then a free fall. I'm sure the recession was part of it - hanging out w friends is free - but I also would guess this is related to texting becoming standard but not smartphones

If I were a mayor that wanted to see a renaissance of walkable districts in my city I would introduce a strong vacancy tax, legalize accessory commercial units, and make it easy to convert any residential property on a major street into commercial space. But that'd mean snubbing the landlord lobby.

The people I know who seem to be struggling the most are the people who are isolated and convinced that staying away is their best protection. Yes, horrible things have happened here, things I wish would have never occurred. But I feel safer than ever bc I know so many ppl now who have my back.

Having lived very close to the center of crisis twice in recent years (3 blocks from where George Floyd was murdered, 8 blocks from where Renee Good was murdered), this is very true. The people who have come out of these crises in the best emotional shape are those who found community.

Today is day 140 of the ICE occupation of MN.

Cases like these are why it feels like every Minnesotan is raising mutual aid rent relief.
