How do we determine if a behaviour is sexual or social, and why are we so obsessed with doing so? A new paper by Drs. Kirsty Graham and Michelle Rodrigues interrogates the false dichotomy between sexual and sociosexual behaviours. onlinelibrary-wiley-com.myaccess.library.utoronto.ca/doi/full/10....

What is the relationship between science and society? How does culture impact the production and dissemination of knowledge? In this new paper, Eppley et al interrogate how systems of oppression bias our research, and how Queer perspectives can address these. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...
this (good) story is very funny to me because it's like How Did These Top Scientists Avoid Working With Epstein? ๐ค They Googled Him And Saw He Was A Bad Guy ๐

Whatโs better to read about on Valentineโs Day than our new paper on same-sex sex in Rwenzori colobus? โค๏ธโค๏ธ Monkey love knows no bounds. can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com?url=https%3A...
Thrilled to share that our new paper is out today! ๐
We report the first description of same-sex sexual behaviour in Rwenzori Angolan colobus monkeys - and find it may play a role in male social bonding within their multilevel societies.
Perfect Valentineโs Day reading โค๏ธ๐

This paper raises really interesting questions about the role of SSB, particularly in stressful environments. While SSB was once thought of as paradoxical or strange, new work increasingly suggests an important social function for SSB in animals.
Excellent new paper out from the Savolainen lab. They found that SSB expression in primates was more likely in species living in difficult environments, with longer life histories, and those with more complex social systems.

New lab paper! We ran a vervet #foraging #experiment where we created both #scramble and #contest. This evened foraging success, but experiencing more #competition still led to #risk averse #decisions by the monkeys, showing the importance of this variable. www.frontiersin.org/journals/beh...
No way this is amazing
Excited to share our new paper on the #social #structure of Rwenzori #colobus multi-male, multi-female core units! We found 3 different patterns but close #male #relationships in all that were long lasting! Paper is behind a paywall but contact us if you want a pdf. link.springer.com/article/10.1...
Young chimps play weird with tools and other objects & this can lead to innovation! Moss sponging, doll play, leaf clipping to ask for carrying. If copied and retained, rare kid innovations can contribute to cultural complexity ๐งช๐ฌ๐ต
My fav article I've ever worked on: www.nature.com/articles/s41...
New paper demonstrating high rates (>50%) of extra-unit paternity in OMUs in a primate multilevel society - the authors suggest a combo female choice and male interunit cooperation are at play here. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
Huge day in the lab! As Sam Stead defends the first #PhD #dissertation on the Rwenzori #colobus!! Congratulations to Dr. Stead!!!
