I'll simply say again that for Shlaes to resurface in The Economist at this moment is an indicator of an ambient concern that Rooseveltian policies and politics are increasingly likely. The thing about the New Deal is, it was *immensely popular.* That's terrifying to certain people

Sorry to be overly sincere for a second, but here's why we decided to persevere through all of the bullshit and take over InfoWars.
There's just gotta be a line somewhere.
Thank you @pablo.show for letting me talk so openly about this.
One thing that's really insane about this is just how little these states matter in the US's agricultural production relative to how destructive farming is there. Arizona, Utah, and Nevada — the entire states, not just CO River irrigation — produce less than 20% the agircultural output of just Iowa.
The reappearance of this take from this quarter is really interesting, actually; I think it’s evidence of an ambient worry that Rooseveltian politics and policies look suddenly possible
She's not a historian and that piece is ahistorical nonsense.
Your magazine should be embarrassed for running it.
"Democrats need to do more outreach to rural Americans! Now let us disparage a Democratic president who did one of the greatest investments in rural America."

A 3-0 WIN FOR THE USWNT 🇺🇸
After Tuesday, the squad was hungry for goals—and found them: a Naomi Girma header, a Rose Lavelle breakaway and Kennedy Wesley notching her 1st international goal. A game to remember in Lindsey Heaps' home state to close out the window against a skilled Japan side.

this morning, mamdani’s team got in touch with me to float a new tax proposal: if your net worth exceeds $5 million and you dress badly, you’ll be hit with a 10% annual levy for “visual pollution.” i would be in charge of deciding if the outfits are bad.
I didn’t know this, did you? Amazing!
“All you had to do was pay us a living wage” is doing a lot of very heavy “A riot is the voice of the unheard” warehouse fire lifting lately.
It'd be great if the time traveling team were members of a John Brown Gun Club chapter!

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION WILL DIE TONIGHT My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools. Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's "keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's "we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight." It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before. "It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time. A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead. @michaelfdubois Mukad A QuBoy @michacifdubois
Brutal.
Don't taco Tuesday this shit. Millions of people spent the day wondering if they would get vaporized, and no one in our government stood up to him. Nothing cutesy about it.
RUSSIA IS IN A WEIRD STATE OF DENIAL
The Ukrainians are making small advances and Russia is losing as many as 300 men for every square kilometre they try to take.
Russians are moaning about the loss of internet access and what it means for their already apparently miserable lives. Air defence
Hey if you're a young adult in the US pay very close attention to the moment because in shockingly few years the popular account of who did or said or supported what right now will be at times unrecognizable. Don't let that break your brain or just you, as a person.
The President of the United States is threatening to commit war crimes and wipe out a "whole civilization" — all because he started a disastrous war of his own making and had no plan and no strategy for how to end it.
This is abhorrent, and the American people do not support this.

one challenge to any kind of dramatic, theatrical opposition to this is that Democrats have zero guarantee their congressional leadership would back them up and defend them publicly. that's what Jeffries not whipping against the Al Green censure means.
we had four years where we didn’t have to wake up and immediately check the news to see what new nightmare the president has threatened to inflict on the world every morning and 77 million people voted that we should have to do that again and I will never get over it
During this incredible, unifying moment of inspiring international cooperation and spectacular technological achievement, I would really appreciate it if the US president would stop threatening to murder an entire country with bombs.
Y'all there is a woman and a black man circling the moon and NASA's mission control+ science teams are so diverse and people are nerding out about science and exploration this is all a gigantic middle finger to the stupid and hate and grotesque ghouls running our country
