Don't believe the empty threats from the gas industry that they'll leave if Australia taxes its gas exports properly.

Inpex are looking to invest RIGHT NOW in high-taxing Norway. They're taking the piss.

As the govt weighs options to raise revenue, balance the budget & confront the global energy crisis, one solution is staring them in the face: replace the broken PRRT with a fair tax on gas exports. It's long overdue, and has widespread support… www.abc.net.au/news/2026-04...

The sense from Labor's questions on the Gas Tax committee is a big worry about ensuring more gas investment.

Sigh.

The govt seems enamored with a windfall profits tax which will look great in a textbook

Then every year in the budget papers the revenue will be revised down.

Make no mistake - the gas industry know the govt is going to have to do something. So right now it is lobbying like all hell to get a tweak to the PRRT to re-label it a "windfall profits tax".

The govt will claim a win and the gas industry will carry on taking the piss.

The govt right now is in full “what can we do to look like we’re doing something” mode.

They remain more worried about gas companies than they are voters.

How much longer can the living dead tabloid newspaper survive — in print or digital? Tabloids like those at News Corp are part dead, living in a twilight, zombie world. Meanwhile, broadsheets are transitioning into... well, tabloids.

The power of tabloids like our own Herald-Sun and the UK’s Daily Mail is evaporating. So why are politicians still so afraid of them? www.crikey.com.au/2026/04/21/t...

The gas ripoff. Japan collects more on our gas than we do - Michael West The Japanese Government makes more revenue taxing its imports of Australian gas than the Australian Government does from exporters.

So cowed by the foreign gas lobby .. the failure of successive govts is so epic that the Japanese tax *our* Australian gas more than we tax the foreign multinationals which export the stuff
