Why settle for replacement value when you're owed treble replacement value?

with Chicago Pope we should have known it was only a matter of time before he'd face bad faith claims about crime
For one, photographic/video porn caters almost exclusively to the male gaze and centers the male orgasm.
Your 10 year old cousin has no interest in reading that and would tap out and find something they actually found entertaining.
Also, parents can only monitor what their kids let them see them reading. Banning all smut just makes them hide the smut. Make better smut available and they'll be fine
I had exactly the same reading list and I turned out disappointingly cis and beige. Maybe I read them wrong.
I wish I had read it along with someone who could actually discuss it with me and point out the flaws, and not in a home where it was taken seriously as literature.
Same. So many books I read as a kid I just didn't understand what was actually happening in any sexual situations outside of maybe the kissing, and I really didn't care.
Yeah, the amount of violence most kids are exposed to before they're even teens is way more concerning, developmentally, than normal human sexuality. Or even weird human sexuality.
I want sex to be normalized because it's normal. Violence? That should always feel shocking and shitty.
I think I was even younger reading the stand and for sure the thing that stuck with me from that book was never the weird sex stuff, most of which I didn't understand was even sex.
It was the "second wave" pandemic stories. Oof.
Why? You want the only idea that 12 year old gets about sex to be what comes up when she googles it on her phone and gets hardcore gifs? Cause they're gonna know about sex and they're gonna seek out the info. At least you can direct them to romance with examples of healthy consent
And the stuff that actually messed me up was the stuff that wasn't sexual. No teen should be reading Ayn Rand. They might be ignorant enough to take it seriously.
Same. I was always able to access anything in my parents' collection. When I was young that meant most of the stuff that wasn't appropriate just wasn't interesting enough to read far enough in to know there was something smutty inside honestly.
Even just rewatching old episodes of ER is like seeing frontier surgery compared to a lot of what we have today, and people already take it for granted
if you invented public libraries today, every opinion page in the country would be arguing for means tested subsidized Amazon Prime memberships
This is a major reason we put our kid in public school. I am not gonna send her into the world poison-brained by constant immersion in privilege and complete shelter from reality.
We can afford private school but public is still available and free to us and that's a good thing.
My husband still has his original set of books so we pulled the first out for our nightly reading time.
Didn't even get halfway before she asked if we could read something else.
She didn't like how mean everyone - including Harry - is. And I have to agree.
Dunkin coffee is gross as fuck in general and tastes like they use gym socks as filters.
But still absolutely more appealing than whatever roadkill tea he's pushing.
Single issue voter? Bitch I have at least 2 issues.
a thing historians will marvel about when they study this era is the extent to which the "war is a thing that happens to poorer, browner people" class went about systematically dismantling every aspect of the global political order that confined the costs of war to poorer and browner people
I hope I raise my girls this well.
among my favorite French Revolution details: the King's cousin, the Duke of Orleans, was so shook by the events of the revolution that he not only voted to execute his cousin but legally changed his name to Equality Phil.
This thread is a wild ride
Remember when RFK Jr. unilaterally decided that COVID19 vaccines should no longer be recommended during pregnancy?
Well, COVID19 increases the risk of preeclampsia.
And it turns out that getting boosted, either before or during pregnancy, significantly reduces the risk of preeclampsia.
post by Rutger Bregman (@rutgerbregman.com) reads: Absolutely brilliant piece about the Left's TOTAL blindness on AI. Their dismissal of AI risks mirrors how climate deniers treat CO2. Will probably get a lot of nastiness for this on Bluesky, but I guess that's part of the same problem.
i shouldn’t give this piece any more attention than it has already garnered but i feel like it is worth pointing out some flaws in the argument/unquestioned assumptions

I sincerely hope that every MAHA dipshit out there is weeping into her beef tallow today.
When my brother won’t let me be a pedophile even though mum said he had to
Do you ever wonder why people avoid you? It's because you're a bad person.
Neat. That makes Nestle bad. Not formula
Scarlet fever is just untreated strep. Which every kid I know has had at least once.
But hey, if nestle wants to cut me a check that'd be great. Daycare is expensive thanks to both of my babies surviving infancy.
