i think the short term shakeup depends on the midterms. if it is "fair" then we will be on the "nothing ever happens" route until 2028. if it is "fair" and dems are able to gain power, then we are on "it can get better". if it is "unfair" then all bets are off.

which you can argue we are already at or nearing on, but at local scale, not state or federal. police and sheriff gangs already have more power than county and city governments.

the only thing maintaining the balance is the federal and larger state agencies that have more power and violence.

hmm. the short term is hard to predict as it depends on choices being made that we have little insight into. my prediction is on the assumption that state leadership (federal and state) loses credibility and control over their own forces and instead become merely figure heads
