This also goes for my health/fitness. I’ve somehow convinced myself if I get to X body weight I’ll suddenly just be happy and that’s not how this shit works.

Constantly need to remind myself that sobriety isn’t a silver bullet. Simply getting sober isn’t a magic solution to all of my problems; I still have so much work to do.

I disagree! I don’t think every human is powerless and I dont think there’s anything special about alcoholics that makes them that way. I tend to side with the thinking that anyone can become an alcoholic.

I know programs like AA work for so many people and that’s truly wonderful but for me, I don’t like the idea that we’re powerless and “diseased”/different. That there’s no “fixing” us, and things of that nature. It feels too defeatist for me

Sobriety isn’t a silver bullet; you still have to do the work on yourself to make yourself whole again.

All your problems won’t just disappear because you’re sober - but your capacity to solve those problems increases exponentially when you can approach with a sober mind.
