I was called a "conspiracy theorist" by former friends for thinking that people like Thiel and Karp were plotting a fascist takeover of America over a year ago. It's been something of journey to see the rest of the world come to the conclusion I privately arrived at, before this all started.

I made a comment last week that putting "bureau" into an e-mail address was stupid because so many people struggle to spell the word correctly.

Just learned that someone had tried 3 times to send an e-mail to the address and only succeeded on the third attempt.

I have a simple rule of thumb: government organisations who don't want their actions examined intend to engage in actions that are against the rules, or are illegal.

Lol. I've made that mistake a lot, too.

My research, of course, was going to have to include whether #copyright was still not mentioned in the curriculum, as it clearly has no business being there, and to my irritation, but not necessarily shock, there it was.

Still no mention of the #PublicDomain, though.

Some years later, my younger daughter starts in a different secondary school, so I decided to look into the matter again, with a view to pre-empting her being taught about #copright (that effectively, she'll never amount to anything because she's probably going to commit an offence beforehand).

As part of my preparation, I looked up the curriculum for JC Music on the Dept. of Ed. web site, and there was no mention of #copyright.

At all.

I attempted to bring this up with the Principal and the Board of Management, but they weren't interested.

It was all about file-sharing, sampling, and the dangers of getting involved in all of that (I think I remember they even used the old '80s trope of "piracy funds terrorism"). Prison sentences. Internet bans. "Just say no.", etc.

A curriculum *obviously* written by the entertainment industry.

I attempted to challenge my elder daughter's secondary school when I noticed that in Junior Cert Music there were about 2 hours put aside for #copyright (with no mention at all in the notes about, say, the #PublicDomain, or #CreativeCommons, or how creative kids can *benefit* from copyright).

This is the core problem: we elect leaders to think hard about how society should work and to enact laws to put it into effect. When they do things like this, they show us they have no problems causing unnecessary, vindictive harm and wasting their time on laws that were never going to work.

Like ... there's an opportunity for the three of them to sit down and work out a platform for the changes people their age want to see. Mind you, I don't know if the world really needs a new platform from a group of white, middle-class, christian-presenting, english-speaking men.

No doubt Big Jim is saying to them "join the queue".

You ... you joined the party that, for its actions of the last 50 years, bears most of the responsibility it!!!
