Things I didn’t expect to hear today:
“This is an incredibly rare disease. There aren’t many people who know what you know. So you ARE an expert, whether you like it or not.”
… aggressive positivity coming in hot 😂
I have the audacity to tell neurosurgeons to schedule their surgeries around my patients’ dialysis. Do you honestly think I’m gonna let these POS, wannabe Rambo MFers try to take them? Bitch please.
Was explaining the role of SGLT2i in slowing kidney disease progression to a patient today. Explained that it’s likely a class effect but don’t have kidney data for all the meds, bc some weren’t powered for that.
Son: “I have a PhD in stats”
Me: “let me tell you about these p values!!” #nephnerd
I had a statistically rare day and I need some science lovers to appreciate it with me:
Today I saw not one but TWO people that have a condition with an incidence of 1-3 per million. I’ve been in nephrology for 9 years and have seen 5 cases. This is the second time it’s been two in one day. 🤓
For the love of polypharmacy…. If you are going to make BP med adjustments based on home BP readings, PLEASE make sure your patients know how and WHEN to take them correctly!
Nuremberg 2.0
Found out this week that my first solo article has made it through peer review and was accepted for publication WITHOUT REVISIONS! So stoked!
If you are an NC resident and voted in November, please check if your name or the names of any family areone of the 60K votes being challenged. If so, confirm ASAP with your Board of Elections. You only have two weeks.

An upside-down American flag hangs from El Capitan near Yosemite National Park’s Horsetail Fall on Saturday to protest the thousands of federal job cuts made by President Donald Trump’s administration. Tracy Barbutes/Special to the Chronicle
Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.
I hate this for you. I’m so sorry.
Thank you! This is EXACTLY what I needed! And I will be sure to share the link with others so they can use it to call their legislators. I appreciate you responding :)
May he meet the same end as Lavrentiy Beria. But much sooner.
Is there a central place to find this information for other states? Because I will ABSOLUTELY throw down with some numbers when I call my (useless) Congressmen. We have our share of big research universities over here in NC.
The answer to that should have been “hell yes!”
@petebuttigieg.bsky.social
Your effective communication style and no-nonsense attitude are deeply needed!
Since RFK Jr just got confirmed today, I am taking this chance to share this wonderful @sciam.bsky.social piece on
The Staggering Success of Vaccines

When working on my doctorate, my research focused on bioterrorism preparedness. Turns out, I needed to be less concerned about weaponized smallpox and more concerned about a Putin-loving felon and his cronies ushering in the return of TB, measles, diphtheria, and polio. 🤷🏻♀️ #publichealth
It was such a lovely interaction! Definitely a tiny bit of a balm for the soul after what felt like so much futility.
As would mine in NC.
I called all 6 of his offices in NC and the DC office today. Not a single answer anywhere.
Oof me too. I have called about something every day this week. They don’t care. So today I also called Rep Crockett’s office to express my gratitude for her. She’s not even in my state, but she’s fighting for all of us.
For many Americans with kidney disease, Medicaid is the difference between getting care or going without. Every cut to Medicaid puts lives at risk. We must strengthen, not weaken, this essential program.
The country is a dumpster fire right now so here’s a weird question for #MedSky.
I live in a townhouse and can hear my neighbor snore through our shared wall. The insulation is fine- it’s just that loud. How weird would it be to ask him if he’s ever been checked for OSA next time I run into him?
Quick takes: Measles in Texas, Marburg death, more polio cases
Ten people have now died in Tanzania's Marburg outbreak.

Did you know that if a child with #measles walks into a classroom, every unvaccinated child will most certainly get it? Why are measles cases increasing worldwide? And is the measles vaccine safe and effective? Dr Natasha Crowcroft explains on Science in 5. Watch full EP: bit.ly/40RQqoC
Cowards will fold when people fight back!!
I wonder if there are any Universities who will be willing to give temporary institutional access to their libraries if the government shuts down PubMed?
I wrote his office regarding both Matt Gaetz and Hegseth… got the same form letter back each time, making it VERY clear that he would not disagree with his führer’s nominees.
And how do we do it/get support for it without potentially exposing our patients to… *ahem* “ice-y” conditions?
