I stand with @ucu.org.uk against proposed redundancies and exploitative fire-and-rehire practices at Coventry University.
This is an attack on hard-won rights & protections. It must be stopped or the tactic of moving workers into subsidiaries with worse T&Cs will spread across HE.

Another wonderful video and feature from Manchester City on the Manchester Corinthians from our visit the other week. We’ll worth watching: www.mancity.com/features/man... #IWD2025
If Sir Jim Ratcliffe wore 10 real £40,000 Rolex's on each arm, and they all got stolen, and he went into London every single day.
It would take him 5,000 days, 13.7 years, and 100,000 Rolex's to pay back the £4bn he has dodged in taxes.
This is great news and remarkably similar to an idea I posted about how to revive the TV industry for mid career and new creatives. 👏 Props to Channel 5 for investing in the future and new stories. It’d be fantastic if the other PSBs followed suit. 🤔

A new analysis by We Own It reveals that £6.7 billion, or £10 million each week, has left the NHS’s budget in the form of profits on all private contracts given by the NHS from January 2012 to May 2024.
What else is there to say at this point? The TV industry as we knew it is gone. Whatever survives from this era of austerity, the breadth of storytelling opportunities will be so much smaller, less complex, less diverse and more generic.

Obviously I can go on about the Manchester Corinthians a lot but if you want a quick taste for the story and why it’s so important to Manchester, football and women’s history there’s a 18 minute film of interviews put together by Imprint Films www.imprintfilms.co.uk/oh-what-a-team Must see!

The cover of The Real Sherlock Holmes: the Hidden History of Jerome Caminada. It is dark brown with cream lettering, and there is a photograph of Detective Caminada under a magnifying glass.

Scandalous that it wasn't renewed. Awesome series.

For the last decade I’ve been researching & promoting the women who played for the Manchester Corinthians but their stories still need spreading. Watch this wonderful video of interviews with some of them to get a feel for how important these women are: www.youtube.com/watch?app=de...
What a lovely day of football. Also, we have long memories. Off you pop.
Are you surprised? 🤔
“Illegal or barely legal” working practices are rife in the UK’s TV industry, new research has revealed."
Wayne Knight and Margo Martindale were private investigators together early in their careers, and nobody’s made a TV show about it yet. That’s how you know that Hollywood doesn’t know anything

Captain, my captain. Will never forget being on the Etihad stadium tour and Tony Book strolled past. I almost dropped down on one knee. RIP, Skip.
1/3 #Football. A history of Manchester Corinthians Ladies using the memories and stories of the people involved. This is a well written and beautifully curated book by @garyjames.bluesky.social. The attendances at games around the world in the 50s and 60s is truely amazing.

Jeannot Szwarc's Somewhere in Time - a well-composed romantic time travel drama. This Richard Matheson-penned fantasy might be on the schmaltzy side, but an excellent cast - Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour, Christopher Plummer - helps it resonate.
A great Sunday afternoon movie.
This Turner xmas jigsaw was a tough one but cracked it in the end.
Five months ago, I recorded a 10-minute explanation, as a former regulator, of why the UK would be not only perfectly within its rights to ban twitter, but probably ought to.
Maybe now people will listen.

THREAD OF OCCASIONAL FILM AND TV RECOMMENDATIONS for 2025.
One of my favourite 1980s movies, John Sayles’ Matewan (1987), has just landed on Amazon Prime. I’ve been waiting *years* for it to finally show up on a streaming service so that more people could see it. #FilmRecs25
