1999 VN "Cross Helix", by System Rose, used pre-rendered 3D CG for its character portraits & sepia-colored BGs, resulting in a very unusual yet cool late 90s aesthetic unlike anything I've seen before. BGs go full color during event CGs, probably to add emphasis, which is neat!
