The paper? A foundational Python toolkit for macromolecular structure analysis. It currently stands at 26880+ citations – more than what 99% of scholars reach during their career. The paper was _indeed_ acknowledged, sure. But where is the fine line between intellectual debt and formal credit?

Here is an example. Let's take Adams et al.'s seminal paper from 2010.
In a sample corpus, we found that 4 papers cite it. However, 594 papers were semantically almost identical to Adams et al. (2010) and never cited it.

So what's a shadow citation?
Suppose we have a bunch of papers. A shadow citation is then a pair of papers where:
→ Paper B could have cited Paper A (it came later)
→ they're semantically nearly identical by embedding
→ BUT the citation never happened

What happens when two papers are semantically nearly identical yet one never cites the other?
I am currently mapping across 5 fields. The result is what I call a "shadow citation network."
Top → actual citations
Bottom → papers that should have cited each other, statistically speaking, but didn't

recently, my biggest "love" has become the semantic mapping of science. I am excited to share that after 4 days of running the code I crafted with state-of-the-art embedding techniques, the semantic map of all ERC projects is finally done.
Now comes the fun part - writing...

Estimating causal effects efficiently doesn’t have to mean discovering the entire causal graph! Now you can find the optimal adjustment from only local information using LOAD!

With great volume comes great quartile? I am currently investigating how the growth in publication volumes relates to changes in Q-assignment in the field of social sciences.

This is a lot of work and there is much data to analyze so if someone is interested in collaborating hmu!

Just received an invitation to publish in a journal edited by the one and only Bridget Jones.

Moving on from vodka and emotional crises to managing APCs with limited-time discounts is a big change, but I am happy for her.

No word yet from Mr. Darcy, but I’ll keep checking my inbox.

The overrepresentation of the United States in the field of legal studies in the science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators This paper investigates the overrepresentation of U.S.-based scholars in legal studies, focusing on patterns observed in the 2024 Ioannidis Science-wi…

Are US legal scholars truly that much better than their peers, or are we measuring excellence within a framework long tailored to Western traditions?

A sneak peek from a paper I'm writing:

This interesting Q1 journal (SJR > 1.2) publishes 15,000+ papers/year. APC: CHF 2900. Avg submission-to-publication time? 40 days. Yes, that includes peer review, revisions, editing — all in a month. This is crazy.

Guess the publisher and I’ll buy you a beer.

Spent nights dreaming about the best journal title for when I eventually found my own.
One that has everything: gravitas, prestige, an indication of excellence, a cheeky amount of ambiguity, and just enough SEO.

Unfortunately, this morning I discovered that it's already taken...

RIP my legacy.

View of Speaking for the Unheard

Global South scholars speaking on LGBTQ+ issues are still sidelined, censored, or used without power.

My new paper in KOME (Q2) aims to show the epistemic inequalities in academic publishing and why collaboration alone isn't enough. Link ⬇️

Funny thing – I have another paper on cancel culture at a random Hungarian publisher which was accepted back in 2022, never saw the day of light. 3 years passed haha.

For those criticizing academic knowledge production – incl. me – it is important to remember that there are two sides of the coin.

First D1 but not the last.
I have started my PhD in law researching cancel culture, never published anything in that domain. 3 years later, I picked up the topic again and did a scientometric analysis.

Interesting stuff, check it out.

What can public figures say on social media? This is a question that my Colleagues and I were working on with particular attention to the US and EU regulations on social media and free speech.

We have grave concerns about the current framework and we fear that darker days will come.

Hybrid Regimes and the Right to Access the Internet – Findings from Turkey and Russia in the Context of the Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights | ELTE Law Journal

Hybrid regimes and the right to access the Internet have a rather complex relationship. If by complex we mean extremely oppressive and truly inhumane.

I express my anxiety and concerns over the future in this publication:

The manuscript shows great promise and covers an important topic.

However, before it can be accepted, the authors are kindly invited to include and implement the following 20 completely irrelevant papers by a magically gifted author who is, of course, absolutely not me.

I was kind of worried about the second round being slow for this paper I submitted in September. Turns out the reviewers still have a little time to reflect. Anyway, only 522 years to go now.
