Marie Lambert examines books that focus on translators: "The powerful historical analogies these novels set up leave little room to imagine language learning or translation outside of the colonial dynamics" lareviewofbooks.org/article/on-translation-f...
it’s autumn again (basically) and i want to wear a big coat and stomp around on leaves and post on my Substack again (maybe)
A really good opportunity here to study Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia: the Birch Family Scholarship is available to a home fees applicant who has applied for a place on the Poetry MA and identifies as a writer of colour. Deadline: 30 May. Please RT! www.uea.ac.uk/study/fees-a...
Recently: for Oxford Poetry 98 I reviewed Sascha Aurora Akhtar’s poetry collection The Grimoire of Grimalkin (published by @prototypepubs.bsky.social).

slightly late to it - severance by ling ma was brilliant. Following a cold and distant narrator, it portrays the tightening grip which capitalism holds on us even as the world around slips into oblivion
Adam by Gboyega Odubanjo is a poetry collection that can only be described as profound - language is used both carefully and stunningly. best of all time
another book I loved this year is @shevchenkoknight.bsky.social’s poetry collection food for the dead. the poems are both tense and tender and I think about them often
the Neapolitan novels, all 4 of them, by elena ferrante. these books were masterful in every way and this is probably one of my favourite book series’ of all time
stoner by john williams; a seemingly “quiet” book that absolutely floored me. i read it at the beginning of this year and still think about it nearly all the time. it gives me the feeling of being alone in the forest in the middle of winter.
good books I read this year - thread (over the next few days)
thank you for sharing 🩵
legend has it im sleepy and cold and want to nap all the time
love being a curly girl I feel Different when my hair is not curly
goodreads sometimes ruins my perception of reading
The cover of this too is a glistening on a blue-purple-pink gradient background. The cover is a cyanotype of two leaves. The cover is printed in bright pink.
