A pair of ammonite fossils rests against a natural levee of cracked stone in the immediate foreground left. There a boy cradles a gray tabby cat in his arms as he lays back against the larger ammonite with his eyes closed. His lowered leg rests on the curve of the second fossil. Notably in the autumnal setting, he wears only black shorts and a white t-shirt. Echoes of other ammonite fossils can be seen in stone above and behind. A trail of russet leaves over damp rock leads into the graying distance as thin trees stand skeletal against hazy skies.
