“Narrative paragraphs summarizing committee discussion will not be used. Instead, summaries will have a sentence describing the degree of consensus in the committee vote, plus bullets listing the main score driving points.“

Why not just give the score distribution and be done with it?

Deaths are horrible, but we should also remember the disabilities many of these diseases can leave people with. Huge human costs to these shoot-from-the-hip decisions!

NIH Funding Led to a 250 Percent Economic Return on Investment | The Scientist Research advocacy group United for Medical Research reported that NIH grant money stimulated the US economy, but certain funding mechanisms may limit future benefits.

The recent presidential budget request has a 40% increase in military spending and 10% cut to non-military spending, including a 25% cut to the NIH.

It seems worth pointing out that NIH (and other R&D) boosts the economy by 250%, whereas military spending (except R&D) shrinks the economy by 10%.

NIH watchers, you will be mostly unsurprised to see that the triage line will continue at ~one third past the first two rounds that were promised. I seen credible intel on that recently. In context that suggests this will be permanent. Ie CSR loves the results and the honoraria cost savings.

The President's fiscal year 2027 Budget was released today.

Important---Important---Important

The President's Budget is always fundamentally a political document that Congress may or may not (usually not) take very seriously.

Science fam, I need help! How do you fix a ‘noncompliant’ manuscript in the NIHMS when the author has uploaded the author approved manuscript, but it’s still complaining about an embargo? This is happening even with open access. What’s the secret trick?
