Dear Mr. Dodaro, We write to ask that the Government Accountability Office (GAO) conduct an investigation of reports indicating that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent granted Elon Musk and other “Department of Government Efficiency” employees unprecedented access to the federal government’s payment systems on January 31, 2025.1 These reports are deeply troubling. These critical systems process trillions of dollars of transactions each year and contain sensitive personal and financial information for tens of millions of Americans.2 These systems ensure that Social Security checks, tax refunds, and Medicare benefits are paid on time and are essential to preventing a default on federal debt.3 GAO must investigate and determine who was granted access to these systems, why and how this access was granted, and the implications for the nation’s economic and national security.

Tweet by CJ Pearson, co-chair of some youth GOP group showing the NY Mag cover "The Cruel Kids Table" showing a celebratory party over Trump's victory. His tweet says: "NEWS: I have made the decision to retain legal counsel and will soon issue
@NYMag
 formal notice.

For TOO long, the media has been allowed to slander conservatives, painting us as racists without consequence.

In the same spirit as
@realDonaldTrump
, It’s time we fight back."

A reply from Jason saying: "Curious, what would the case even be?"

Pearson replies: "The basis of the case is false light defamation. Removing myself from the situation for a bit: nearly every person in the cover photo is a private citizen. Labeling them as cruel, inhumane, or creating the implication that they would attend some exclusively white racist political event is defamatory."

So the "free speech absolutists" are now claiming that putting your picture on the cover of a magazine with the headline "the cruel kids table" is "false light defamation."

These guys simply crumple into mush at even the slightest hint that maybe, just maybe, some people don't like them.

David Lodge, British Novelist Who Satirized Academic Life, Dies at 89 His 15 well-plotted novels teemed with romance and strange coincidence. An erudite literary critic with an ear for language, he also wrote a raft of nonfiction books.

Sad to learn that we will not be graced with another David Lodge novel. I read every one with pleasure, and was blessed with the chance to review one. The Times gives a thoughtful appreciation. A book reviewer must have been involved in the obit's composition.
