Think of it in reverse: what if artists are terrified that they can never fully connect with their non-artist friends? Neither of them are realistic positions to adopt. Friends thrive on differences, not similarities.

We've got four (4!) similar with us at the moment, with another four who have moved out into their own places. It was never the life plan, but it's curiously satisfying. And, as I keep telling them, they're a useful source of organs when I get older...

Maybe I am being stupid, but the difference here seems to be that Brown had been talking nicely to the lady in the street while Mahmood was shouted at while trying to talk in public. I.e. it's nothing to do with racism vs anti-racism at all; it's about how to act politely in public. I think.
