16 or so, but it became illegal again a couple decades later and still is to this day.

Do you consider 50k the starting point for a novel? The numbers are all over the place and I haven't been able to find anything standardized.

Congrats on the book! I've been so out of the loop lately I didn't know about it until recently.

Oh wow thanks for the comparison photos. I went back and read the introduction and saw where he explained it. Must have overlooked it and it's easier to grasp seeing it all right here. The ebook has the endnotes so I was able to grab that to augment my current read.

@igreggreene.bsky.social Did you ever get this SST version of Demon Theory? Curious if yours has less footnotes than the original pressing. Looking at my ebook there are a lot more footnotes than this physical. Maybe I missed something SGJ mentioned about it in the author's note.

I saw this yesterday, but not sure if it was posted late Friday. Did I misread this as being open until 11 PM today? 😬

One day left to submit your work to Nightmare Magazine! We close at 11 pm tomorrow night.
As ever, we're looking for short stories under 7500 words, flash stories 0-1500 words long, poetry, and creative nonfiction.

Sometimes I have to let my phone charge in a different room of the house so I'm not tempted to use it. Probably the same sentiment here!

Who has never killed an hour? Not casually or without thought, but carefully: a premeditated murder of minutes. The violence comes from a combination of giving up, not caring, and a resignation that getting past it is all you can hope to accomplish. So you kill the hour. You do not work, you do not read, you do not daydream. If you sleep it is not because you need to sleep. And when at last it is over, there is no evidence: no weapon, no blood, and no body. The only clue might be the shadows beneath your eyes or a terribly thin line near the corner of your mouth indicating something has been suffered, that in the privacy of your life you have lost something and the loss is too empty to share.

I'm not the biggest fan of the over-commercialization of Halloween (and, well, everything), but I was left stunned at a recent excursion to Spirit Halloween that featured a whole-ass haunted subway.
