‘A big, bold project.’ Heated debate surrounds Ann Arbor development deal "This is the kind of private-profit-driven B.S. that I do not ever want to see before this board ever again,” Commissioner Yousef Rabhi said.

“Commissioner Andy LaBarre countered Rabhi’s arguments, saying the deal isn’t perfect, but it provides needed housing. Waiting for perfect would result in nothing, he said. ‘The people in this community that need a place to live cannot live in rhetoric.’” 🔥 #A2Council

Today, 30+ #AnnArbor leaders called on Monroe Public Schools to reinstate Athletic Director Chet Hesson. Dr. Hesson has been on leave for more than three months after expressing empathy and support for a Skyline student who was being targeted with unwarranted hate and intense harassment. #A2Council

With the passage of this Ordinance to Create Rent Transparency, #A2Council finished the job we started last year when we eliminated predatory pre-tenancy junk fees. This ordinance will prohibit landlords from charging any “mandatory fee.” Those costs should be billed as what they really are: rent.

As our families & communities struggle with rising costs, and the recklessness and uncertainty coming from Washington, Michigan needs a US Senator who will fight for us. Mallory is the leader I trust to defend our progressive values, deliver for our communities & get results for Michigan families.

We recently hired a new Communications Director for the City. When I have my first opportunity to meet with him, the City’s community engagement strategy — including our social media strategy — is one of the topics I hope to cover. We are well-behind other cities in this space.

Jenn Cornell | For Ann Arbor City Council

Jenn and I don’t agree on every issue, but she is someone I deeply respect even in moments of disagreement, who I can count on to challenge me when necessary (and who is comfortable being challenged), and who I would be proud to continue serving with on #A2Council 4/4

I’m incredibly excited to support for my Ward 5 #A2Council colleague, @jenncornell.bsky.social, in her campaign for re-election. She is a public servant who leads through honesty & integrity. She is guided by her values. She puts in the work and she gets shit done. 🧵1/4

“Exclusionary practices drive up the cost for everyone and reduce the amount of available land...Taking on our affordable housing crisis requires a comprehensive strategy, and reducing exclusionary zoning and land use restrictions has to be a part of this." - Senator Elizabeth Warren #A2Council

"Restrictive zoning laws -- borne out of racial segregation -- prevent new affordable housing units from being built. Using exclusionary zoning to keep families -- often lower income families and families of color -- out of certain neighborhoods is wrong…” - Senator Elizabeth Warren #A2Council

It is incredibly important that #A2Council adopts a Comprehensive Land Use Plan that addresses exclusionary zoning & embraces housing opportunity.

But don’t just take my word for it. Listen to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (@warren.senate.gov) & Fmr. HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge: youtu.be/41zdcPJcTuM

Residents need clear & easy-to-access data to track City progress on community priorities, hold government accountable, and understand the challenges we face. And #A2Council needs to be able to track progress on adopted plans & policy goals to make informed budgetary & policy decisions. Now we can!
