My ‘the specific poll result you asked about was in fact wrong’ tshirt has people asking questions etc

Any minute now, someone is going to do something to stop Steve Hilton (yes, that SH) becoming governor of CA. Any minute now… (2.5 months to go)
This is utterly jaw-dropping.
A school that bans Atwood, Zadie Smith, Terry effing Pratchett and *literal George Orwell* is actively harming its pupils.

How real or not is the apparent backlash to Net Zero, clean energy etc in the UK? I have some new research out with @ippr.org today.
Easily the most in-depth look at this! Review of existing polling, new polling and message testing, interviews with ambivalent voters, etc
Here's a taster 🧵
Record-breaking 43.3C yesterday in the US, the country's hottest March day ever. Rapid science study finds it couldn't have got that hot without climate change caused by burning fossil fuels. Seems like one hell of a good time to stop.
Something extraordinary – yet predictable – has happened over recent days on Facebook.
Fake accounts that usually post anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim content generated using AI to fuel division and hate in UK are now pushing out AI-gen content asking:
"Should the UK produce its own fuel again?"

End of petrol & diesel suddenly seems a lot closer
The only real choice is for the developed world to build out solar on a scale previously unimaginable to do 10m bpd of demand destruction the good way. I get that is far beyond the uk’s power but it’s the position we should be advocating for early, instead of the EU tariffing Chinese solar.
I guess now's a good time to say I got a heat pump 3 months ago and it's great

Perhaps, though it was a bit simpler for us as we never seriously considered panels or a battery. But agreed the up front cost to get a quote is a problem - you’ve got to be committed to even find out what it’ll cost you.
Should say the experience of visiting a heat pump locally helped reassure us how normal and easy it was to have one, cc @acjsissons.bsky.social
Bills are about £35 less/month atm, albeit with a now slightly bigger home. Compared with replacing boiler & adding water tank, it was maybe £3-4k more expensive. So perhaps 7-10 year pay off? But that's an early & rough guess. /END
The massive plus: I never think about the temperature in the house. With a boiler it was too cold, then good, then too hot, then good, then cold again. Now, it's always good. I never think about the room temperature any more.
Some of the cost was adding a water tank as part of switching from an on-demand boiler. That takes space but it makes things much better. Gone are the days when you get screamed at for turning on the hot water when someone's having a shower.
We had to get a couple of pipes replaced, but that was it in terms of disruption. And we live in a 1890s terrace with no insulation on half the external walls.
We timed installation for when we were doing building work. At first that was a pain because some installers weren't interested. But when we found one that was, it was a dream. Everything happened exactly when we needed it.
Important disclaimer: I'm not a heat pump dad. I don't have an app. I don't know what a flow temperature is. I just wanted a heating system that works and I don't have to think about. And the heat pump does.

If you’re wondering what the big deal is about Jürgen Habermas (who died yesterday), or if you’ve never heard of him until now, you’re not going to learn much from the short newspaper obituaries, which are focusing on more on what he said about current events than his philosophy. 1/
The Atlantic ocean current that keeps northern Europe warm is in danger of collapsing. @ellenhalliday.bsky.social asks: why is this getting so little attention?

Thanks! Making sure I’m understanding this: eg Astwood Bank is now on its longest streak of consecutive wet days and Cardinham is on its 4th-longest? And when does the data go back to?
Very keen to see it! Any idea when?
How does this compare with the historical record? Are any of these approaching/already seeing their longest wet streaks on record - or is that some way off?
This year's Climate Fiction Prize longlist looks great. Read all of last year's list, haven't read any of these yet. Time to get stuck in.
Yeah. Hadn't seen any forced choice horse race polls (only ones with all candidates) but I'd assume that's true
