“There’s a reason professional associations for librarians have been under attack & bills that would criminalize librarians have skyrocketed during this rise in censorship–librarians are obligated to uphold the 1st Amendment rights of all, rather than the interests of the current political regime.”
Look at what the good folks @readlux.bsky.social are doing as an example. They don't have the big money behind them that Turning Points has and they are still doing this. Why can't others do the same? They can.
Two Florida women argued that forcing them to have C-sections violated their rights.
Hospital staff said their medical decisions threatened the health of the fetus.
Courts would decide which one mattered more.

A few months ago I pitched Reactor an article about SFF around the world focused on translations, and @cxorlando.bsky.social came up with the loveliest idea to expand it into a column. We start this month with Hiroko Oyamada's The Factory, a great little novel about the irreality of office jobs.

Honestly, she's pretty tame except for this one thing...
Please hold that thought close to your heart for when the book comes out and you meet Hester.

Everyone look at Professor Pendleton from THAT DEVIL, AMBITION because she's perfect!
200 books are being moved from their appropriate spots in YA and youth sections into the adult section in Rutherford County Public Libraries (TN). This is to appease book banners and the Secretary of State, who demanded removals based on Trump EOs.
It's still a ban.

A post of book recommendations based on the Rainbow Crate April 2026 theme. Twenty books in four rows: the first and fourth row have six book covers which stretch across the entire width of the graphic. Rows two and three have four books with two on each side. In the middle of these is a dark graphic with a yellow light bulb on the left and a purple light bulb on the right. A Rainbow Crate logo with no text is at the top. Text below reads “April 2026 Light vs Dark Book Recs” in all caps. “Light” is in a yellow neon font, “vs Dark” is in a purple neon font, while all other text is in white font.
🌈 Hey Reading Rainbows! It’s time for our recommendation post for next month’s theme! Here are twenty books that we think also fit the April theme of Light vs Dark! These are a mix of Adult and Young Adult titles.
i have a problem
Another tough day for team “there’s no point in complaining about AI, just accept it.”
This is so so upsetting. So Grammerly is violating the memory of bell hooks AND making AI versions of the rest of us before we're even dead. Someone tell me who to sue, not even joking.
I finally lost my shit about so-called AIs, LLMs, enshittification & everything fucking evil that @officialgrammarly.bsky.social is doing. I'm fucking furious, and not just about what 1 company has done. An open letter to Grammarly & the rest of the LLM hype machine www.moryan.com/an-open-lett...

"The Doors of His Face, the Lamps of His Mouth" by Roger Zelazny has been described as "all speed and adventure" by Theodore Sturgeon, and indeed it is one of the most exciting adventure tales SF has produced. Let me change one word in every grammatical unit of every sentence, replacing it with a word that "means more or less the same thing" and I can diminish the excitement by half and expunge every trace of wit. Let me change one word and add one word, and I can make it so dull as to be practically unreadable. Yet a paragraph by paragraph synopsis of the "content" will be the same.
