Snow? Anyway, I hope to see you at # RMRRF.

I'm excited for Rocky Mountain RepRap Festival #rmrrf this weekend. Who here on bluesky is planning to attend?
Do we need to study zodiacal light, then? Can we get some spectroscopy and polarization studies?
Depression really sucks that way. I hope you get some relief sooner or later.
If you see @pezliz.bsky.social while you're there, you have to arm wrestle to decide which of you is my favorite streamer. :-)
I hope all goes well. I'll be watching and rooting for Artemis.
Trying to get up to speed with Yocto and learning all the new terms and I get hit with this? Poob really does have it in for me.
Ooh, irresistible.
Tuxedo patterned cat, laying on its back.
I really enjoy all the things you share so it's the least I can do.
You too? I did one a couple years ago. It was fun so I bought some new paint, bigger blocks and ... they're all just sitting around.
Same. Yeah, same.
And in 2031 it will be half my age. I get it. I'm almost dead.
So I think I may need to drop the PYNQ stuff and explore a recent Yocto distribution to continue exploring Rust on this Zynq platform.
On the plus side, that working setup allowed me to install Rust on the platform so I was looking forward to experimenting with that. But I wanted to write up the work and having it tied to older tool versions doesn't seem great.
I did succeed in getting all the PYNQ components to build and deploy using PetaLinux/Vitis 2024.1 at one point. But the same process with 2024.2 and beyond runs into build issues. And now I need to work with a reference design based on Vivado 2024.2 so something's got to give.
Since December I've been working with the Xilinx Zynq platform and trying to get the PYNQ Python/Jupyter environment working. But, wow, it's just been one roadblock after another hitting version restrictions with Vitis, Vivado, PetaLinux, Yocto and PYNQ. (more)
Congratulations!
Closeup of a wood workpiece with half a spiral bit laying in one of the pockets.
This is the fifth time I've run this particular CNC job with no issues but this time the bit breaks? Never trust a CNC machine.
You have to be a certain age to remember when this was inconceivable.
Oops, I was way off. Sorry for the confusion.
I thought that was a reference to the subway sub thrown at a National Guardsman here in DC.
You're making DC proud.
Update: with a bit of struggle, I did manage to use a hydraulic press to remove the old bearings and install new. Sadly, I neglected to take pictures.
I tried taking the housing apart to get to the bearings but I need to use a press. So I'll take it to our robotics meeting today and use the one in the shop.
A small router with the motor brushes removed. Old brushes are worn to less than half the length of a new set, also pictured.
This 5-year old Makita router that I use on my CNC has never had any maintenance. Today I want to try and replace the brushes and bearings. Old vs new brushes pictures.
Yeah. Our friendly one came to the deck today.
It's not just me, then. Also Turk looks the same age as before?
That's more than 1 out of every 1000 people in the US. Is that number actually plausible?
I'm reading Rockville is in the 1-10 inch zone. :-)
Awww.
