Well you have something to look forward to now when you finish BotW 😊

I have a friend whose first two Zelda games are BotW and TotK. How do you top that? How do you play ANY other video games after that???

The Internet's Most Powerful Archiving Tool Is in Peril As major news outlets cut off the Wayback Machine, journalists and advocacy groups are rallying to protect the Internet Archive’s vast collection of web pages.

Journalists know that losing the Wayback Machine would be a nightmare: www.wired.com/story/the-in...

I love looking back and seeing how things were received at the time, how hyped people were for certain things, the information (and disinformation!) that folks had about systems and accessories…

With TotK I find the powers much more fun. BotW’s powers are good, but after TotK they feel so limited. It’s not even building, just the freedom and flexibility with Ultrahand.

And how they managed to tweak and recontextualize the world so that it was fun to explore all over again… love both

I got love for both in different ways, you know?

The sense of exploration, of seeing the world for the first time in BotW was incredible. Proper “erase my memory so I can experience this again pls” stuff.

They say the Pope is weak on crime but he has an elaborate costume, a Popemobile and is seldom seen after dark.

I was gonna call it the GOAT, then I remembered Tears of the Kingdom also exists, and… damn, I can never pick between them. Two absolute masterpieces.

Wild that Altman is being sued by his sister for repeated sexual abuse and that doesn’t come up in basically every conversation about him. I get that it’s alleged but if that shit was happening to someone else I feel like that would come up, particularly if that person had a history of lying a lot.

A photo from behind the scenes on filming Revenge of the Sith. Against a bluescreen backdrop, George Lucas snarls and raises his hands to the sky, as Ian McDiarmid in full costume as Palpatine, does similarly in the background.

can't believe we're really getting the taxation of trade routes being in dispute *and* a blockade of deadly battleships

A screenshot from The Dagger of Amon Ra. The dialog box reads: "It’s too heavy. You don’t have room for it in your purse. It’s not yours. You can’t do anything with the shovel. You have more important things to do than use the shovel. Besides, the shovel is rusted into place."

a 3 star review of the first Illumination Super Mario Bros. movie that reads as follows: I dressed up as funky kong to see this with coworkers and my manager was like "who the fuck are you" because I looked like a 90s weed dealer so I told her to "just wait and see" and then he never showed up in the movie

tbh I still feel I get more enjoyment out of reading this short review of the first Mario movie than I do out of watching most full-length films

"you will never guess what this is a response to" is my favorite genre of BlueSky post, because you're totally right, I never would have guessed what this was a response to.

Meanwhile, the revenue that does reach publishers is a fraction of what advertisers spend, siphoned off by layers of intermediaries adding little to no value. The broader consequences for the media ecosystem have been catastrophic. When advertising revenue migrated from publishers to platforms, local newsrooms lost the financial foundation that had sustained them for decades. Facebook and particularly Google, which controls the auctions for programmatic ads, take an enormous cut of the revenues of advertising for themselves, leaving publishers with a tiny fraction. This advertising technology business has been officially labeled a monopoly in federal court—as you may have read in the Prospect—and the judge will soon rule on the remedy phase of that lawsuit.

The result for the news business has been well documented: thousands of communities with no local coverage, no accountability journalism, no one watching the school board or attending the city council meeting. Readers migrate to free sources of information on platforms owned by tech monopolies, which have little incentive to do anything other than manipulate them into staying on the platform as long as possible in order to show them ads and harvest their personal data. We have a media environment where readers, watchers, and listeners receive a steady diet of deteriorating online content while our democratic institutions and social fabric erode.
