The idea that soft money positions couldn't be supported by a university in today's environment is a total lie. But it's no suprise to me-Wash U wouldn't even let a pre-tenure professor under intense pressure pause teaching for a semester "because the parents". There is always an excuse.
Universities need to look in the F’ing mirror. It took a lot of people telling themselves “there’s nothing we can do” to let this happen.
