What if... and hear me out here... we voted for politicians that actually answer questions about their policy positions
screenshot from the linked Grist article: But Emily Becker, director of communications for the climate and energy program at the center-left think tank Third Way, described the agenda as “Biden on steroids,” warning that it may not resonate as broadly as its proponents hope. “It lacks the imagination of the Green New Deal, and it lacks the pragmatism of the Inflation Reduction Act,” she said. “They find themselves stranded between, ‘OK, do we tell policymakers how to make something durable that works and that has political fortitude? Or do we paint the picture of the world we wish to build?’” That middle ground makes her think the agenda won’t catch on. She also thinks using a populist framing to convince the public to care about climate is unnecessary. “You are lucky to be a clean energy advocate in this moment, because clean energy is affordable energy,” Becker said. “So talk to them about addressing energy affordability and how clean energy can satisfy that.”
i know it's fun to dunk on third way on here but how can you be third way and be mad at people who are proposing a third way (grist.org/politics/gre...)
one thing about me is i just tried to find spam the canned meat in the international/asian aisle
if we're going to call neurodivergent people neurospicy, can we start calling neurotypical people neurobland
Omg yesss I got this today
An opposition party would not be on vacation right now. They would have coordinated message to the public about the fact that a President in cognitive decline is threatening more war crimes. They would be BLASTING the message on all available platforms.
If you think protesting will be ineffective, can you imagine how ineffective NOT protesting would be?
🚨 THIS JUST IN: With over 100 protests still to come, we can already estimate that at least 8 million people participated in No Kings protests today.
That makes No Kings 3 the largest single day of protest in American history. #NoKings
Satellite image of two blended photos from above Gamal Abdel Nasser Street in Khan Yunis in central Gaza. The bottom half shows densely packed neighborhoods with, many of which appear to have sustained damage from aistrikes, with some small patches of trees. The top half shows continuations of the neighborhoods in the south, but with much of them now completely flattened to yellow sand and smudges of grey rubble. Google Maps pins indicate that this area contains 2 restaurants and 3 mosques.
Satellite image of two blended photos of northern Gaza. The bottom half shows a small coastal farming community next to a blue sea, with multiple fields of crops visible. The top half gives way to fields completely packed with white and blue tents belonging to refugees.
Image of three satellite photos of an area southwest of Gaza City. The bottom left corner shows small neighborhoods of white-roofed houses lined with green trees, giving way on the bottom right to flattened neighborhoods covered in rubble, red sand, and bulldozer tracks. The top half of the image is a wasteland of yellow sand and grey rubble from dozens of demolished buildings, including Google Maps pins for a mosque and an site marked UNRWA-GFO
Two blended satellite photos of northeast Gaza, showing stands of green trees in the left half giving way to barren yellow sand marked by tree stumps and bulldozer tracks on the right.
Apparently Google has only partially updated its satellite photos of Gaza, so there are currently these weird images where whatever algorithm they use is utterly failing to blend before and after shots
my tiktok feed is full of qtown kids posting videos from their bedrooms about this, and these aren't 'political' accounts - i go to their acct and it's normal teen day in the life and then blood on a protest sign
i 'grew up' in student organizing and i've been thinking about these kids a lot
anyway you can donate to the kids www.gofundme.com/f/stand-with... and follow my friends @cringeytheram.bsky.social and @luciaforcongress.com who are sharing updates and actions
if some kid wants to skip class, but then spends the next hour talking to her peers who organized the protest and learning why they care about migrant justice, builds relationships within the movement, and feels like this is something they can do again - that is in fact how we build power
the black panthers offered free breakfast to poor folks and then organized them into movement. they didn't purity-test their intentions at the door
if some kid wants to skip class but ends up seeing his classmate beaten and bloodied by the police - you don't think that's gonna radicalize that kid?
last week a plainclothes policeman violently assaulted children who were staging a walkout to protest ICE
and i keep seeing people say "well these kids just wanted to skip class"
and as an organizer i wanna remind us that people come to movements from self-interest and that's not a bad thing
"If we continue prioritizing funders over voters, we’ll continue yielding expensive defeats."
also true!
i think the point That Article is making though is that a lot of the left (not you!) is going "3D printing is inherently evil and useless and i refuse to learn how it works, how it might help me, or how to influence the way it is affecting the world" instead of using it to print whistles
replies: why would i use AI to refuse to read an article when i can do that myself
OPINION: Let Bucks County Voters Have a True Choice in May’s Elections | Sarah Baik believes it's time to put the small "d" democratic back in the big "D" Democratic primaries.
feels notable because the center-left Dem so often whines about it when they lose to a progressive, I appreciate that Malinowski despite the conditions of the race is throwing support behind Mejia in the same way progressives who lose are without fail expected to fall in line behind a centrist
and if you want to see more choice in PA primaries, consider signing this open letter from @redwineblueusa.bsky.social :) bsky.app/profile/kati...
there's a few forums coming up that will have most of the candidates! this is the next one: bsky.app/profile/buck...
+ there's in-person events being planned for later this month - @luciaforcongress.com, @robstrickler.bsky.social, and @tracyhunt.bsky.social will announce when the dates are set!
can confirm she doesn't :)
Could @luciaforcongress.com be the next @analiliafornj.bsky.social, a progressive organizer from New Jersey who appears on the brink of cementing victory against establishment candidate and former Rep. Tom Malinowski? Lucia walks her talk and she knows what she is talking about.
not saying this to brag, i like barely said anything, it was just weirdly surprising to me when several people afterwards were like uhh yeah none of the panels i saw said anything about These Times or the decline of american civic health broadly
i was lucky enough to participate in this as a volunteer last year and this year i'll be facilitating it! if you believe fundraising can be an invitation into our movements and you want to hang out with the sharpest donor organizers i know, this is where you wanna be 🔥🔥🔥
went and spoke at a philanthropy conference today with a lot of lovely people and somehow i may have been the only panelist to bring up the imminent threat to american democracy ?
man just one or two more posts and I'm gonna fix american leftwing politics i can feel it
