The Supreme Court long relied on careful, time-tested procedures to issue decisions. But secret memos by the justices, obtained by The New York Times, show how the court decided to bypass those procedures and create its modern “shadow docket.” See key takeaways: www.nytimes.com/2026/04/18/u...
I didn't wanna interrupt the mid-game sports screaming with this, but Seattle lost a real one today. Joel connelly is one of the last of the cantankerous old school newspaper men and he loved the Pacific Northwest more than anyone. I was so starstruck to work with him. Complete legend.o
Joel Connelly: 1948-2026
Joel was a legendary journalist and columnist who helped build the Northwest Progressive Institute into the influential organization it is today. After many decades of employment with Hearst at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, he transitioned to writing for Post Alley and…
Joel Connelly, who passed away today at age 78, was an excellent reporter and columnist for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer w/an institutional knowledge of the Northwest. As much as we remember his exceptional reporting, we also remember his kindness and joy for life. We’ll miss you, Joel.
Social media post from Joel Connelly’s family announcing his death
Joel Connelly was our state’s premier political analyst, and I suspect I read every word he wrote since first running for office. He was also one of the worst retirees — Joel couldn't seem to stop covering Washington politics.
RIP Joel Connelly, an absolute legend in Seattle journalism and politics.
BLAZERS
Unreal.
It wasn't that long ago the Raiders hired a head coach straight from TV, then did the same thing at GM.
The result: 4 years of chaos.

Pope Leo on Palm Sunday: “This is our God: Jesus, King of Peace, who rejects war, whom no one can use to justify war. He does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them, saying: ‘Even though you make many prayers, I will not listen: your hands are full of blood’ (Is 1:15).”
The NHL's new generation is arguably the most talented cohort the sport has ever seen. But the young stars are disrupting the game’s old-school culture off the ice even more.
Here's a gift link to my latest feature for @theathletic.com on the NHL's aura shift.

I think there is something to explore that many nations at the WBC have come showing what they love about their country (dancing, celebration, tradition) to represent the people while the American team has shown up representing and only celebrating the military
Do I see Pedro the Lion?!?! (Excellent song btw.)
Stop platforming this quack.
Yang Hansen suited up for the Rip City Remix.
Very tall man.
If there's media you care about, it's hard to overstate how important it is that you subscribe to it. Ad rates are garbage, and the changes to search mean fewer new folks discovering sites they didn't already visit.
When Pete Hegseth starts flexing in front of American flags and talking about “death and destruction from the sky,” this is what he’s talking about: dozens of little girls murdered.
NEW: Guards have taken away crayons, colored pencils & paper during recent room searches at Dilley, according to detainees and others. After one inspection, the children just “cried and cried and cried,” a mother said. The facility denies the claims.

🧵 (1) SIX ICE DEATHS IN TEXAS IN SIX WEEKS; 3 at a Fort Bliss camp holding +3K immigrants. A homicide involving staff. That’s after the deadliest year in ICE detention in decades as Trump seeks to expand it. Lawyers call it an ‘unfolding humanitarian crisis.’
