K'arik is! His grandfather managed to maintain the peace well enough to pull off a secret assassination and become the new leader. Talib is not royalty. His grandfather decided the whole system was too far gone and totally upended it.

My two main ace ocs are K'arik (aroace) and Talib (ace + demiromantic). They're both disabled and both have a now-dead grandpa who was royalty, had a close family member who was a tyrant leader, and resorted to murder to oust that tyrant and establish peace. This is an unintended coincidence.
