Today's writing:
That frustration when you know you have to seed a concept earlier in your novel, but your beginning is so tight you're not sure how to loosen it up to make room for the pieces you need.

More research into therapeutic psychedelics is a good thing. But I don't think for two seconds anyone in this administration has the common American's interest at heart. Always follow the money.

Ibogaine may be a useful mental health tool, especially in regards to addiction.

I fully support psychedelic therapy and wish there had been clinical access when I was going through the worst of my depression.

As someone who cares a lot about psychedelic research, let me just remind the world that Peter Thiel owns a majority of the main companies researching ibogaine for clinical use. The same Peter Thiel who contributed significantly to the rise of both Trump and Vance.

"When I need to wipe my face
I use the back of my hand
And I like to take up space
Just because I can
And I use my dress
To wipe up my drink
You know, I care less and less
What people think"
- Dilate, Ani DiFranco

This is my crone goal… and I wish it had been my 20-year-old girl goal.

I see that in my own relatives, too. :(

But actually going back to loneliness and not dating (because I highly believe that friendship and community is the cure to loneliness NOT romance and dating)... knowing how to create social spaces and hold room for others INCLUDING hosting a meal, hosting in general is super important.

It feels like there used to be an expectation that a woman would be interested in a man's life but he was not required to be interested in hers -- the man's life was supposed to be enough for both of them. A few generations where that eroded, but with the manosphere, that ideology is returning.

And… hobbies that put them in contact with women if they are straight. Young men who put their time into men’s groups online and then men’s sports offline — but want to date women confuse me. How are you supposed to date women if you’re only participating in things that exclude them?

The Things We Leave Out Godshot by Chelsea Bieker

Take two on my thoughts on Godshot by Chelsea Bieker: how the things we leave out in our writing can trigger the social imagination and create a more impactful reader experience

Today I learned... one of my meds would disqualify me from getting my pilot's license and the other would require me to get special issuance.
Do I want to fly? No. But it's helpful in putting into perspective how much the psychiatric drugs we take may be affecting our awareness/judgment/responses.

My favorite spot was the art showcase. I was actually speechless wandering around. There were so many beautiful creations. I picked up this print from Ivy Gilliam.

An absolute highlight was hanging out with fellow PKD nominiees @willalex.bsky.social and @thomasha.bsky.social who were lovely people. I'll also say the award ceremony felt unreal.

I spent too much time at the @tenebrouspress.bsky.social table, picking up just some of their books to have the covers in real life. (And got gifted an arc of Midwestern Chrome by @beardedbetts.bsky.social, which I already read as an e-arc but really, really wanted a copy of.)

I'm finally home from Norwescon, which was an absolute blast. I met so many enthusiastic people -- which was just the drink my soul needed. And then there were all the fun items weighing down my suitcase on the way back.

It was so cool to see some of 10p in person. Also, you guys have to stop making such amazing covers. (Except, don’t)

It was so much fun to meet in person. And you’ll be happy to know I just managed to squeeze my suitcase shut with all the 10p titles I brought home :)

Also — the art. I thought I was going for the books but I couldn’t stay out of the art room — so many beautiful creations!

Post-con exhaustion but holy wow was NorWesCon the best intro to cons. Met so many interesting and enthusiastic people. The world seems just a bit better after all those smiles.

The Bittersweet Anguish of Being Godshot - Koji A Dae Godshot By Chelsea Bieker

My latest cult read was Godshot by Chelsea Bieker. This book was so bleak but in an amazing way and, imo, really pushes what you can do emotionally with literature about cults.

The Bittersweet Anguish of Being Godshot Godshot By Chelsea Bieker

I could write a novel about Godshot. The book was brutal but beautiful. And as far as cult-books goes, it makes cult-life so surreal that it feels real.
