I had a bunch of stuff I wanted to send her to. I've been thinking for a while now about making some long-form content on analytic Indian philosophy, either essays or YouTube videos. Gab was one of the people I was most excited to share it with for feedback, along with you, Darren, and Fabien.

Part of what makes this such a punch to the gut is that she was doing so much better than before. She was optimistic, she had several long-term projects planned, and some of her tweets seemed to be positively brimming with a kind of joy for life. It's so cruel that it was all cut short.

How am I supposed to keep it together knowing these are the last messages we sent each other? I don't even know what to say. It's so devastating.

Same here. Gab actually reached out to me a few weeks ago saying she had some phil related thoughts she wanted to share. At least once a day, I would wonder what she had in store for me, genuinely excited to see a new notif from her. I valued her thoughts so much. And now I'll never get that notif.

I'm sad to inform many dear friends that Gab (@atheopagan.bsky.social) has passed away.

One of my oldest and best friends on the internet (of almost a decade), @atheopagan.bsky.social, gab, died last week. I used to joke I didn't remember ever actually meeting her, so she must have always-already been there, a being integral to my experience of the internet. She found this flattering.

Thank you for everything, Gab. For almost a decade, you made my life better.

The tweets and DMs, the Rabbit and Skype calls, the long walls of text and voice chats on Discord, all the discussions about philosophy, politics, veganism, and life in general... I cherish all of it.

I'm glad I got to meet you, and I'm glad you were in my life.

I'm still trying to get to grips with the fact that the next time I want to @ or DM her to share a funny tweet or bounce random thoughts off of her, she just... won't be there. It hurts so much.

She was one of the smartest, most interesting, and most unique people I knew. I've never met anyone else like Gab, and I don't think I ever will.

Life was often unkind to her, and I know she suffered deeply. But I never once saw her wallowing in self-pity. She always confronted her suffering with a sort of Nietzschean spirit of affirmation.

But at the end of the day, she was always an extremely compassionate and intellectually curious person.

I will fondly remember Gab's fiery iconoclasm and her almost spiritual devotion to liberty. Her ill concealed contempt for superficial social norms that weren't anchored in deeper ethical principles predictably led to her pissing off a lot of people.

One of my very best Internet friends, whom I've known since 2017, @atheopagan.bsky.social, has passed away. I will miss her dearly.
