My style in college was "aggressively comfortable," so I was actually concerned less with looking like an English major and more with showing that I was a college student. Page 2 says, 2. Take a book everywhere. And it has to be something impressive, or at least edgy. English majors invest in their craft. Footnote: I started college in 2008, three years before Borders went under in the U.S.
