I couldn't help it, this is such a fun interpretation of The Matrix of Leadership, I had to draw it!

Many, MANY comics featuring Superman from the 2011 reboot, better known as the New 52.
Now that so much time has gone by, and I'm no longer really concerned about the ongoing state of the Superman comics, I'm finding myself oddly drawn to the New 52 Superman comics.
Something I've realised is that, none of the writers seemed to know what to do with Lois Lane.
Not as sick as those soldiers are gonna get thanks to these fucking imbeciles
These people are utter fucking morons.
We already knew that, but they keep finding new depths of stupidity.

I rewatched that not too long ago too and indeed had the same thought. I assume they just hadn't quite figured out some of their lore regarding the gate, like how the unstable vortex annihilates anything caught in its initial wake. I don't think they mention that til season 2

Two frames from Star Trek: Voyager of Tuvok in the mess hall, giving the line, "I have grown to respect a great many of you", and then with a bit of side eye, "Others, I have learned to tolerate"
Tuvok Tuesday announcement
He's definitely staring directly at Neelix with that last exception
It would explain why their costumes were so cheap here, replaced with better ones later.
I don't think they'd quite gotten around to planning DS9 as of yet when this episode came out. I think they just figured later that there was a lot of potential for Cardassians later, and incorporated this stuff into the spin-off.
Our feature reference/artist for today is this BEAUTIFUL pages of EXPRESSIVE HAND and FEET references by the talented

The first panel shows a crow with the title "How to live a good life". The second panel shows a crow cawing at itself in the mirror with the subheading "Make friends". The next panel says "Explore" and shows a crow looking into a commercial waste bin. The next says "Try new things" with a crow eating something vile. The next one says "Be curious" and shows the crow grabbing a hissing cat's tail". The final frame says "Get a hobby" and shows the crow looking closely at a book of matches.

Geordi leads Riker through engineering, the "Pool table" like console in the foreground, an LCARS prop on top of it, but otherwise exactly as it looked in Star Trek IV rather than matching the look of the Enterprise D.
Geordi gets sent to engineering to grab a report, then next time we see him, he's in charge down there, setting him up as the default engineering guy in season 1 episodes they don't want to pay a guest star for.
And hey, the pool table! Reused from Star Trek IV and not yet given the D style.
Armin Shimerman as a fur rag wearing Ferengi, talking to a colleague.
Armin Shimerman (a Jewish actor, of course. I suspect all the Ferengi actors in this episode are) was so embarrassed by this, he made it his 7 year mission to use Quark to rehabilitate the Ferengi.
Which, though the makeup will always have those issues, he actually managed pretty well.
this was really not the way to realise that on screen. I do believe that the people making it probably didn't realise what they'd made until it was too late, but it doesn't make it less uncomfortable. What the Ferengi are meant to represent is in the dialogue, but it's hard not to see... well, THAT.
Yeah... it was years until I realised what they (I hope accidentally) depicted with was a Jewish stereotype, largely because I hadn't really known about that stereotype growing up. Gene definitely had a LOT to say about American capitalism and greed, but
Ahhh right, I remember now, yes I can totally see that.
Yeah this is one of those legendary, yet somehow way less talked about, aspects of Roddenberry in the TNG era. IDK at what point the costume designers eventually decided to ignore his instructions, but indeed the Ferengi were meant to have gigantic cod piece armour to protect their massive dongs.
Huh... what was it in Star Trek IV?
It's funny how it recontextualised the Stargazer encounter as basically a Damon panicking because it was way too soon, and he didn't know how to handle this first contact situation before the plan was fully in place.
so Grand Nagas Zek put out propaganda quadrant-wide to make sure word got to the Federation of the Ferengi's supposed might and strength, and went about constructing crazy-expensive warships, trying to ensure the Ferengi were prepared for whatever they'd meet when they finally encountered Starfleet.
