"With greater awareness & much-reduced stigma, older ppl with subtler traits are now diagnosed. […] It’s amazing how many ppl will consider the possibility of having autism when the label no longer implies a lack of humanity." @mosaicofminds.bsky.social:

I've been a little slack about it but did you know I'm a Kinder World Ambassador? 💜 The KickStarter for Kinder World: Mother Tree is live and it is SO GOOD. The game is designed to be a little breather, a pocket of fresh air when you're stressed and working hard. You check out a free demo on the KS!
cool. folks are going to have a new business model where they can sell age-verified accounts to kids.
I am a piece of proof that enjoying dark romance is not the problem. What’s next? Horror games are somehow how we got our current elect?🙄
Autistic people tend to look much younger than they are. This starts around age 12. They may appear 5-30 years younger than they are

Babyface
Autistic babyface appears to be a combination of multiple factors including:
- less frequent emoting over an entire lifetime
- environmental factors
- psychological
- Autism co-occurring with EDS (which can cause people’s skin to look younger *or* older)
I can imagine the absolute disappointment in some random child as they open the wrapper to find the string cheese itself doesn’t have so much as a carving of the Disney princess on it. Or even an adult who loves Disney princesses.
For many autistic people, “picky eating” is a legitimate hard-wired sensory aversion. This means that forcing autistic people to eat aversive foods is… the wrong approach, and can make food issues even more traumatic.

When you/your autistic person are sick: "Now is a time for rest & relaxation. Put off whatever you can until another day. Those emails will still be there when you’re well. So will school projects & deadlines. Take care of you because you are so so important."

Even if you're not into your autistic person's passions, you can follow along with them, and make them feel seen: "I wouldn’t be interested in those topics but then I know it's something that makes her happy […] you want to make your kids feel heard and happy."

That’s an ew.
Euphemisms are not necessary when talking about Disabled people.
We can't do some things and generally that's not as bad to deal with as abled people's discomfort with the fact that we can't do some things.
We've all heard "If you've met one autistic person, you've met one autistic person."
However, the more autistic people you meet, the more you learn about autism. Not only how autistic people are different, but how often autistic experiences are shared—even by autistic people who SEEM very unalike.
“We ran a series of tests involving touching foods, eye contact and trains. We even put a big disco light on and started blaring music to see if he’d have a meltdown, but he just started dancing.”

She stands atop a cliff overlooking a forested land split by a blue river. Giant mechanical deer tower over the trees. It's a blatant ripoff of Horizon Zero Dawn imagery
Like, one community shocks y’all?? How about a whole state with laws written into its founding constitution for the sole purpose of keeping it white as possible?

Especially when you start gaslighting yourself.
Shame grows in the silence - when you don’t “look” dysregulated enough to be believed.
When you collapse alone, and no one sees the crash.
We don’t owe anyone proof.
We don’t need to scream for it to "count".
Internalized doesn’t mean imaginary.
When a meltdown is internal - quiet, hidden, invisible - people don’t see distress.
So they deny it ever happened.
They say you’re overreacting.
Too sensitive.
Too much.
But internalized meltdowns are real.
And the gaslighting that follows is its own trauma.
I am Disabled and rely on $847.40 income from SSI and SSDI—plus help from social safety net programs—to survive.
I'm going to transfer a thread about these programs, but:
If you can help, please:
1. Go to ugiftable.com.
2. Enter the Ugift code: B1M-J0R
3. Send money from your US bank account.
If you're unfamiliar with how the programs work, I put together some threads explaining the basics and differences of Social Security and Supplemental Security Income.
Yikes. Hope you can get SNAP back.
18. Disabled is not a slur. Feel free to use it (depending on the disabled person you are talking to and their preferences).
