"A community is democratic only when the humblest and weakest person can enjoy the highest civil, economic, and social rights that the biggest and most powerful possess."
A. Philip Randolph, born on this day in 1889
How is bombing schoolchildren “pursuing a path of peace”?
Who’s gonna tell him
This is very true! And as the research on the issue shows and as the Hungarian example confirms, and the Polish one before that, the key to large turnout is long-term, grass-roots organizational labor that helps people understand how their single vote is a dignified part of a larger transformation.
Hire more religion reporters.
“Sending abrasive dickhead to negotiate with Iran has backfired”
Who would’ve guessed? An administration filled with grossly incompetent people, led by the stupidest president to ever occupy the Oval Office, failed to end the illegal war they started.
April 12, 2026.
Absolutely remarkable statement from Pope Leo today.

Reinforcing my pet theories:
1) all reactionaries/authoritarians are basically the same;
2) misogyny is the molten core of every reactionary/fascist movement;
3) persecution of LGBTQ is downstream of the misogyny;
4) so are all the other bigotries (this is more tendentious I concede).
BREAKING: DOJ investigating Iran for Mortgage Fraud.
Impossible to disagree with a single word that Ben Rhodes (Obama era NSC official) is saying here:
What a f*cking waste of lives and money. 😠
a functional press would explain to the reader that these are all propagandists and rank opportunists who hold no real fixed values outside of the pursuit of wealth, attention, and white supremacy
Speaker Mike Johnson said he hadn't seen that particular nuclear strike from the president, so he wouldn't feel comfortable commenting on it.
Regardless of whether it’s all talk, when the leader of our country expresses plainly genocidal intent, everyone has to do something.
For citizens of all political stripes, it means rejecting this madness. For Congress, it means taking action to rein him in. Now.
On one hand, the way the Iran war is playing out is a heavy-handed, almost theatrical illustration of the point Adam makes here.
On the other hand, the same strategy—tougher, harder, more violence, more cruelty—has failed over and over again throughout human history, and we still haven't learned.
A photo of some decoration above a door at the Oval Office. There's a flying cherub surrounded by some trim. Everything looks like it has been covered by gold foil, like you'd find on a Cadbury bunny.
The White House put up Cadbury decorations for Easter.
"I DON'T BELIEVE IN HANDOUTS" That's not something you actually think, that's something rich people told you to make you think working yourself to death was your idea
They call me whatever names they want. I will never stop fighting for the right to vote and against voter suppression.
One way or another, this country is going to learn that accommodating white supremacist ideology will destroy this country. It did so once before and is doing so again.
Is this country really prepared to allow our military to be DESTROYED by racism & sexism. Are we watching this like a TV show?
As a Christian, I don't think federal agencies should be referring to "Christ, our Savior" in any context. I don't need my government to validate my faith. That's why it's called faith. More importantly, my government shouldn't be invalidating the religions of other Americans.
Los Angeles Bluesky, I need your help. I just learned that on Saturday at the protest at the downtown Metropolitan Detention Center, a friend’s 18-year-old son was shot in the eye with a pepper ball by DHS, permanently blinding him. He needs justice. If you were there and saw anything, please… 1/5
Why do we live in such a childish, stupid country? A country that wastes its money on useless billion dollar aircraft carriers, when it could be spending those tax dollars to actually help its citizens like sane countries.
In Belgium, employees receive compensation for every kilometre they ride, with some cyclists earning up to €810 per year.
And why not? Biking saves public money for everyone.
“All employees in Belgium who cycle to work are entitled to a bicycle allowance of €0.28 per kilometre of their commute.”
Image of one of many pedestrianized Montreal streets turned into a people place, with the phrase “we could never do THAT in OUR city” over top. The tagline at the bottom says “leadership doesn’t make excuses.” Via the Urban Truth Collective.
If your city leaders see something AMAZING that another city is doing but claim “we could never do THAT in OUR city,” don’t believe them.
Leadership doesn’t make excuses. It takes action. #UrbanTruth
