Poster for Khamsa -The Well of Oblivion, by Vynom
Day 20: Khamsa - The Well of Oblivion
Algeria's first animated feature. The style and art direction is on point, albeit repetitive. It's slow paced and the story's obvious at points, but the ending went in a direction I genuinely didn't expect. If you like Journey or Hollow Knight, give this a shot!
Day 19: The Glassworker (2024)
The first feature hand-drawn film from Pakistan! It could have used a second draft, and I wish that it took a little less heavy-handed inspiration from Ghibli. Still, I had a good time watching it, and it had a lot of great moments that had it's own ideas.
Day 18: Tales from Earthsea (2006)
Yeah, it's not good. It's boring and lifeless. The characters, their dynamics, the worldbuilding and the magic aren't fully fleshed out. The dragons are pretty cool but are under utilized.
But hey, that's just like Skyrim, and I'm a sucker for Skyrim.
Day 17: The Legend of Hei (2019)
I love the unique, clean art style, it really makes the action scenes pop compared to other action animated films.
It's just, the story left such a sour taste in my mouth. Hopefully the second film justifies it, but tbh I left this feeling disappointed.
Day 16: The Point (1971)
~SUPER~ on the nose metaphor, but very charming in every technical aspect. It's one of those films that would play in your first grade class that you'd vaguely remember. Just a chill time!
Day 15: Fritz the Cat (1972)
Incredibly influential milestone in animation history. Some political commentary holds up, a lot doesn't. Very much not for everyone but I appreciate the boldness ngl.
My least favorite Bakshi so far, but for sure won't be by the end of this month (foreshadowing).
Day 14: Night on the Galactic Railroad
A movie that should have been a Chloe slam dunk. Quiet contemplative film about cats in space, sign me up! But it was 40 minutes too long for my taste, and overall samey and monotonous. I loved the art style though.

Day 13: Titan A.E. (2000)
This is for the furries that aren't cowards. Alas, I'm not a furry, but I was surprised how much I liked this. It's not amazing or anything, but it had some good set pieces and designs. Hot take but I like this more than Treasure Planet, but not by much.

Still from The Tale of the White Serpent
-but it had beautiful moments, and some parts of the story I didn't expect. I had a decent time watching, but I don't think others would (2/2)
Day 12: The Tale of the White Serpent (1958)
The first Toei film & the first feature length anime in color. Incredibly low budget, super slow, horrible songs, bad acting. But somehow, it's so charming to me. I understand why it inspired Miyazaki, but also why he hates it. A complete mess- (1/2)
Tier list of Masaaki Yuasa's films. The Night is Short, Walk o
Decided to make a ranking of the Yuasa movies
Day 11: Inu-Oh (2021)
My final Yuasa film, and a great one to end on. It has the best duo protags in any of his movies, and a style that's different from his usual works, but still instantly recognizable as his own. A lot of the history went over my head, but it made me want to watch it again!
Drascura, my girlboss goddess queen
Not sure if I can watch any movies this weekend, busy with work, school, etc.
But here's a teaser for the next movie I'll be watching. Do you know him? Do you love him?
Still of Gulliver's Travels
Poster for Mr Bug Goes to Town
Gulliver's Travels (2/2)
The small characters were annoying and unfunny, and overall I wished this movie was more like Fleischer's other works.
If yall want to watch a piece of animation history, go watch Mr Bug Goes to Town. It's a 5/10, but has more Fleischer blood in it's veins then this.
Day ten: Gulliver's Travels (1939)
Fleischer's first feature, and 2nd full length American animated feature film! It has a lot of history, but in the end the story and animation felt like it was riding Snow White's coattails. The pacing was slow and dull, and animation was a mixed bag.

Movie poster for The Halloween Tree
The book cover of The Halloween Tree. This cover looks awesome, with eight characters blending into a skull
Day nine: The Halloween Tree (1993)
This would have been my jam if I watched it when I was eight. Not much to say about this one, it's a pretty fun story and a cool way of explaining different cultures. You can really feel the Ray Bradbury writing in the screenplay.
Nah but fr, didn't care for this one. This’s one of those movies that was a massive inspiration for some amazing directors (Genndy Tartakovsky, Tomm Moore) but the style of this film was far surpassed by its successors. The story is very typical and generic too.
The 60s dubbing. It's so funny.
Day eight: The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon (1963)
I wish that I was able to watch this movie in the original French dub, because the English one is roughhh. And there're some other nitpicking issues about the movie, but I was surprised of how much of it I vibed with :) I recommendy!
(4/4)
The plot actually reminded me a lot of The Snow Queen, young kind girl in search of her family member that's in the tundra. It’s very fairytail-esque while still being grounded in reality. Sasha's a very likable protag, and she goes through legit danger that I didn't think they'd go so far. (3/?)
Mad respect to this movie having such sparse music, it adds so much more weight to scenes with just the sound effects alone. It trusts itself and the audience to connect with what's happening on screen, while not handholding them. And I think the sound design is very good!

Day seven: Long Way North (2015)
Y’all. This movie’s so… chill. ~Cool~ even, one may say.

Poster for Summer Wars
Day six: Summer Wars (2009)
Just a solid, sweet time. Haven’t seen much Hosoda, but this is my favorite cast in his movies that I’ve seen. The family members have a ton of personality, and of course Hosoda’s character acting is just so fun to look at, can’t get enough of it.
I didn’t mind too much about the ugly looking characters and the adults playing children characters, I was just along for the ride on this one.
I do love the idea of Mark Twain waxing poetics to his OCs and they’re just “damn ok Mr Twain”. That's what I would do if I was in his shoes. (2/2)
Day five: The Adventures of Mark Twain (1985)
There really is no other stop motion movie that looks like this. There're some segments that aren't as interesting as others, but the best parts of this film really stick with you. The dialogue is so goofy at times but I love it.

Little teaser of the next movie on my Animation April list
Poster for the film The Bloody Lady
Day four: The Bloody Lady (1981)
I loved the gothic score and the animation had a lot of charm. It’s my first time learning about Elizabeth Báthory's story too, but I felt like it could have dived deeper in certain aspects of the story. This film tested my patience quite a bit, but it's interesting!
