There is no 'exit poll' when it comes to Ontario's auto insurance claims. No tracking of consumer satisfaction for the end users of the product. It is a gap in information, and it is deliberate. We hope the Sheridan Survey will provide some insight: www.fairassociation.ca/2026/02/sher...

Premier, cabinet ministers' records could become secret in new FOI, cybersecurity bill | CBC News Ontario is set to make Premier Doug Ford and cabinet members' records secret as it "modernizes" freedom of information laws.

"The changes will make it "impossible" to uncover the government's role in the Greenbelt scandal or the allocation of a private spa at Ontario Place, said Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles."

Less transparency means corruption goes unchecked.

He Braked Hard Once, Then His Insurance Jumped $100 A Month | Carscoops Modern vehicles collect driving data, often without us realizing, and your insurer might be buying it

Is your car watching you?

Most new cars track how you drive through built-in telemetry.
Some automakers share or sell that driving data to insurers.
Drivers often consent unknowingly through clauses in paperwork.

To report or not to report: Do your clients know the rules after a crash? Poll finds 43% of drivers bypass insurers after collisions, but this comes with serious consequences

To report or not to report: Do your clients know the rules after a crash?

For brokers, the numbers raise a direct question: do your clients actually know that they must report an accident to their insurer, even if they never file a claim?

Many Ontario food bank users are car crash survivors denied assistance by their insurer. It's a system where insurers deny claims with impunity with a failed Tribunal system (LAT) and a lack of regulation to protect the injured.
A very sad situation that impedes recovery.

Like #Ontario auto insurance, Tarion is a product consumers are legislated to buy and it is, like car insurance, without oversight or any consumer protection.

No competition = stripped of value by insurer greed + broken oversight = a rip-off

No way people buy this if they weren't forced to.

OTLA calls for LAT review as injured Ontarians win fewer disputes LAT's disputes showed a consistent decline over the years

In Ontario, many homeless are car crash survivors denied coverage by greedy auto insurers. Tribunal hearings are a failure + insurers know this, the regulator FSRA looks the other way + American hedge funds own medical assessment centers.
A total mess

Ontario insurers often spend more $ assessing injuries (so they can deny the injury) than they do treating injuries.

Turn down rate is very high, people end up at a tribunal where very few succeed in getting the help they need.

It's what happens when we are legislated to buy an inferior product.

Ontario Court: All Drivers Have a Duty to Avoid Accidents Ontario’s Superior Court confirms all drivers share a duty to avoid accidents — even by taking steps to prevent harm. Learn what McFee v. Sutram means.

"The duty of care exists for every driver, every day, on every road. Whether it means slowing down, anticipating another driver’s mistake, or taking precautionary action, the law expects all drivers to act in a way that prevents foreseeable harm."

In Ont auto insurance claims for Acquired Brain Injury and/or Cranial Nerve Injury:
In 2013 $16,258 per claim (average)
2025 $1,696 per claim for same injury.
What #Ont auto insurers pay is dropping at an alarming rate = poor coverage = stress on public health

“A rise in accidents could impact insurance rates as overall claims amounts rise, potentially resulting in higher car insurance costs for Ontarians.” I think rising insurance rates are the least important outcome of more accidents. More concerning is the concomitant rise in chronic injuries. #onpoli

Agree - if you can't collect on the coverage you paid for after a car crash - the policy is worthless. It is an empty promise that does more harm than good.
There's no meaningful accountability for insurers who stiff customers in #Ontario and half of all claims end up in a court/tribunal.

Driver testing should not have been privatized. Govts issue licences so govt should test drivers. “It found higher rates of collisions among certain groups, including urban drivers who’d taken their tests on lonelier rural roads” I’d heard this was a thing. And people worry about autonomous cars.🙄
