Happy Lunar New Year!
Red is traditionally considered the color of celebrations and prosperity. However, one particular shade, Red Dye No.3, is not doing so hot.
@aoruii.bsky.social @rhysea.bsky.social explain how the food, supplement, and oral drug ban of the additive was enacted by the U.S. FDA.

I was deeply disappointed by the lack of nature/science/climate/enviro on many major end-of-year book lists—so I decided to make my own!

Faith communities can have such a powerful influence in driving folks towards climate action. I wrote a piece earlier this year on eco-chaplaincy for Sojourners to show how the climate crisis is also a faith crisis.
Also check out Katharine Hayhoe’s list of eco-faith communicators!
Help out a climate lady? If you communicate about climate for a living I’d be so grateful if you took this quick survey about your work. The info shared will be used for a report on the state of climate comms and to create programs that support YOU!
Participate in our 'Temperature Check' survey and contribute to a broader understanding that could shape future strategies. Your responses not only inform our report but also help define effective practices for communicating complex climate information. 📋📝

Seems like scientific publications are now also participating in the “race for breaking news.”
It’s WAY harder to produce quality stories and research when you’re forced to have a quick turnaround. Kudos to the scientists and journalists who are still doing remarkable things in these conditions.
also applies to climate coverage!
For context:
It's estimated that the most vulnerable countries in the world need at least $1.3T per year to accelerate the clean energy transition and build resilience to climate impacts.
COP29 closed yesterday with an agreement for $300B per year (not the actual funds, just the agreement).
Fun fact, diminishing Arctic sea ice helps fuel large wildfires in the western US
In our world, neutrality means continuing to use climate language that Big Oil and Gas have imposed on us for decades to make us feel responsible for our planetary crisis while they rake in billions of dollars without a smidgen of guilt.
More scientists need to read this.
The #SciComm starter pack is almost full. Make sure to revisit it as l’ve added lots of folk this week.
Do share it and flag up if you’d like added.

With Bluesky user numbers rocketing, more official news accounts are arriving.
Here is a starter pack of major media outlets.

I have often received ire from journalists who say calling myself a climate activist makes me “less objective.”
But echoing @charliejgardner.bsky.social, I feel a moral responsibility towards my 8.2 billion fellow humans to speak up.
I am a climate scientist, journalist, educator AND activist.
Check out @bentleyitems.bsky.social’s LONGGGG list of some very awesome climate starter packs!
@katharinehayhoe.com Would LOVE your help getting the word out about our second climate communicator survey!!!
“The problem with the climate movement is that people are not prioritizing the things (tech) that matters most to meeeeee!” - every white climate guy forever, despite the fact that they have also driven the climate agenda forever. There, saved you the time of reading their endless think pieces.
I just discovered #booksky and I think it's one of the best things to exist on the internet.
I'm currently reading The Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac because I am fascinated by how people inculcate Buddhist philosophies. What about you?
