And the ‘Yakatori’ at the end is the icing on the cake…

Yes, there were! (Though a distressing number of dead ones from bird flu a few weeks ago). I’ll definitely try that Wapping route some time, even though it lacks a few canalside brown bars for the full Dutch experience…
Looks lovely, and is a nice reminder that I’ve never actually walked along those canals through Wapping. The rest of your route is pretty familiar, though: we live just beyond Millwall Outer Dock.
😜🥳
Is that 2 complete Parsifals over 2 days? You have more stamina than me! Last night was just Act 1; Act 2 this afternoon and 3 this evening. I’m afraid (heresy!) I’m a bit allergic to Hotter’s Gurnemanz & Kna’s tempi: it’s the 2023 Heras-Casado Bayreuth for me this time.
Always a super experience; many of the orchestra are old friends, and it’s lovely to hear how each new generation of boys (and now girls) step up to the challenge.
The few tracks I’ve heard so far are very good indeed (as was his Matthew a few years ago). Next Tuesday, as I’ve done every Easter for the past 25 years (apart from 20-21) I’ll be driving to Hereford to play in a Bach Passion, accompanying the cathedral choir. SJP this year.
That link doesn’t work for me: is this one any better?

I hope you were listening to Sibelius5 at the time…
Like you, I suspect the production was more effective seen as a video relay than sitting in the Met auditorium. But, like @davidnice, I didn’t find Green’s Marke as underplayed as you, and several others did. But Davidsen and Spyres were both magnificent, both in sound and in action.
Yes, it’s been a weekend of spending nice weather indoors for the sake of music for Philippa and me, too. Yesterday,it was down in the basement of LSO St Luke’s, rehearsing Balinese Gamelan for a gig next month, and today in the Barbican for Tristan …
Too late! But I’ve previously seen many of the NY-based reviews, and it’s good to hear that some of the balance issues are (predictably) resolved in the broadcast, and to see your more positive opinion on Marke.
Thanks for this review, which arrived at the perfect time, as I’m sitting in the Barbican Cinema café awaiting today’s 11.40 encore screening.
That’s exactly Philippa’s line 😜
Spinach is always a good inclusion in any dal mixture, I think.
Thanks for the tip - yes, the Kindle edition is there as a pre-order on UK Amazon, 99p: ✅
My answer to the trolley problem is:
That’s not a trolley, it’s a tram.
No, what you call a tram is a cable car.
No, what you call a cable car is probably a funicular.
Oh, while we were sorting out these important points, the railed vehicle has passed the points. Yes, they are points, not a switch.
Guilty as charged: Brummie
Well, it’s certainly not a fritto misto, which is what I’m used to seeing in your food photos… Not sure about the bed of beans -I think I’d prefer some mash on the side.
Recorder nerds like me will be quibbling about the “treble recorder and alto recorder”…
And how many of them have appeared as interviewees on Lev’s podcast?!
Sorry not to say hello, but you were deep in conversation (was that the other Mark?!). I thought the Sibelius was absolutely superb.
The Sibelius was very, very fine.
On my way 🥳
For now this is just one poll. But if this trend continues the current FPTP voting system makes no sense anymore.
If you add the SNP and Plaid Cymru to the mix we might end up with a completely random result at the next elections. Which will undermine trust in the U.K. democracy even further.
It’s working for me on both iPad and phone, though I haven’t had to log in very recently.
Couldn’t get to that one, but your recent post on it reminded me to book for his Winterreise in July (🙄): v much looking forward to that - and to the surtitles.

Magnificent! But I also like this, spotted at Minsmere a couple of weeks ago.
Beethoven sonata op30 no2, the scherzo.
