The UCLA women's basketball program is about to win its first NCAA national championship.


It's also the first national title in women's basketball for the Big Ten since Purdue won one in 1999.

It's an anticlimactic title game, because UCLA leads South Carolina by 30+ points right now ... but this emphatic by the Bruins.


Quite a statement by a team that expected to be here. Lauren Betts told me she's been manifesting this and dreaming about cutting down the nets.

Cori Close deserves a ton of credit for today's game plan — and just how composed her team has been all day on the sport's biggest stage. Neither she nor any of her players had played in a national championship game before. No nerves. No pressing.

Through three quarters, UCLA leads, 61-32.


Entering today, South Carolina's single-game season-low was 60 points.

UCLA has been so, so impressive all afternoon. Putting on a clinic.


Four Bruins already in double figures, 20 points off of 16 offensive rebounds, 30 points in the paint. And they've assisted on 17 of 23 made baskets.

Just one Big Ten women's basketball program has won an NCAA championship. It was Purdue, in 1999.
